Why are we waiving Cousins?

I really don't understand NBA personnel decisions whatsoever.

I think its because his contract would have been guaranteed and they would have had no roster flexibility moving forward without eating his contract. For a team with championship asperations, it seems silly over a league minimum contract, he was a model citizen here and played pretty well.

They want to maintain roster flexibility to both weather any future COVID-related issues and also give them more room to add at the trade deadline.

Waiving Boogie now doesn't mean they won't bring him back later, either.

If Giannis and Bud still wanted Boogie on the team, he'd still be on the team.

I think that is a simplistic way to look at it. the bucks are over the luxury tax.

I'm sure Giannis / Bud wanted Tucker back but ownership didn't want to pay the tax to match the Heat's offer.

Money does play a large part in decisions.

Tucker was an unrestricted free agent. You really think this guy wanted to stay in Milwaukee?

Bucks had the right to match the Heats offer, if he wanted to stay here or not

https://clutchpoints.com/bucks-news-controversial-reason-milwaukee-let-pj-tucker-walk-heat/

While Tucker’s salary with the Heat might seem relatively small, all things considered, consider this math: An offer that started at, say, $7 million would have cost the Bucks approximately $23 million in tax and, thus, would mean a $30 million bill. That, above all else, is why he’s not coming back to the Bucks.

That's not true.

As the newly-crowned NBA champion gears up to hit unrestricted free agency, it is no secret that he will have many suitors across the league. Contenders would love to have a player of his stature defensively on their side nightly, and his name will be featured in the rumor mill because of it.

The Bucks had no sway over resigning him if he didn't want to stay here. They held his Bird rights, meaning they could go over the cap to resign him, but if he didn't want to sign in Milwaukee there was nothing the Bucks could do.

yeah i guess i was confused on bird rights, but yes bucks couldn't compel Tucker to sign, but from his statements after signing with the Heat, I guess he was surprised the bucks didn't make a better effort. I posted this during the offseason, but it was pretty clear that the bucks had to chose between him and Portis, and I think they made the correct call anyway.

With all of the injuries and COVID issues the Bucks are having they sure are playing extremely well.

If this team gets healthy this is a very deep team especially if Lopez comes back for the playoffs.

This is probably a function of my age (mid 30s), but I’ve never fully understood the Jalen Rose hype. So he was on a team that LOST two consecutive national championships? But he looked really cool doing it because he wore black socks and baggy shorts?

12 year NBA careers are often not the result for a player that was overhyped in college - the fab five almost had to be overhyped, but they absolutely changed the landscape of college basketball having freshmen play huge minutes.

King and Jackson were the coattail riders of Weber, Howard, and Rose - Jalen was a top tier college recruit, but Weber and Howard were always more touted.

Jalen Rose was the first person named Jalen (so he claims) and there are literally like a hundred Jalens in college basketball now. And that's all I have to say about that.

I get it. He had a long NBA career, so he can’t be considered a bust or bum. But he didn’t win any championships or make an All-Star game. He’s basically the NBA equivalent of Pierre Garçon. There’s just something culturally about Jalen Rose and the Fab 5 that doesn’t resonate with me (but I accept it means something to some people).

I realize the entire guard rotation is out right now for various reasons, but that was the worst bench performance I think I've ever seen. Giannis, Midds, and Bobby tried to win this game just the three of them, but wow, the bench scored 5 points, and took 15 shots. Ojeleye and Hood need to go when everyone gets back.

I know Boogie was released for money reasons, but oof....

Bucks stomp Brooklyn on the road without the top five guards in their rotation (Jrue, Grayson, Hill, Pat, DDV) and the first thing Jalen Rose says on ESPN is the Nets were shorthanded.

Worldwide Leader in...something.

Ha! I was watching this game while bowling and wondering why Nwora was starting PG.

Incidentally, this was the first Buck's game I got to see this year. I'll admit NBA basketball is a distant third to football and baseball, but it seems like Bucks games are hard to watch outside WI. I don't pay for ESPN either, which is part of it. Good to see the team beat the Nets handily though.
