Bucks 2021-2022 season thread

reillymcshane
Bucks are sitting in a great spot to push forward and get a top seed. As long as the Big 3 are healthy I really don't see a lot standing in their way in the East. I think Miami would make them work and it would be nice to have HCA against them. The rest of the field is a pretty big meh to me.

For me it is the Raptors that gives me the biggest concern matchup wise.

RIP Moses Malone. One of Dad’s favorite All-Time players. He had a cup of coffee stint with the Bucks and, man, he was still awesome. He had an Old Man game for dayyyyys. Passed in his sleep while attending a golf tourney with former teammate Calvin Murphy.

I’ll tip one to you tonight, Moses. And, I’ll fondly recall the day my Pops and I ran into you at ‘The Big Table Restaurant’. My Pops was absolutely Starstruck. I never saw him that way before or since. You were a true Legend in his eyes.

Is Robin Lopez a suitable trade target? There’s no better backup for Brook, right? His annual salary is ‘only’ $5 million. I would think that’d be feasible.

I think the general sentiment ‘should’ be: If RoLo is DDV’s depreciated current value we just as well should hold onto DDV. RoLo is fine as a Big body. I surely wouldn’t want to give up a depreciated asset in DDV for him tho. Just my opinion, of course.

Great player. But he passed away in 2015. Are you just bringing him up for the heck of it?

Also, man Takeover Jrue Holiday showed up last night in LA (which had a crazy big Bucks fan base in their building which was awesome). Again, he proves why he is definitively One of the most overlooked players in the NBA. It makes no sense. His step back this year has been lights out. He single-handedly killed the Clippers run when they knocked the game to single digits from down 20 into the 4th qtr.

Oh man. Yeah. This is TOO funny. I am working and on break and I got a random text from my Dad. I actually had a double take moment after I posted…”Haven’t I had the Moses Malone convo w him before?!?” Sure enough.

His response to me: “My bad. I just saw a headline and shared with You.” :laughing

I think Robin will be bought out and he will come to the Bucks after the buyout. That is just speculation by me but I think Robin would come back to the Bucks and I am not sure if there would be a better fit.

A Buyout return would be awesome. It’s really the only way I want RoLo joining the Bucks. Giving up any of our limited assets, limited as they may be, still feels like a completely unnecessary overpay.

Also, as an aside: Monroe has been entirely surprising since his return. He is moving way better laterally since dropping weight. Not a bad 10 Day pick up so far by any measure.

Celtics offered Schroeder for Donte. Bucks turned them down. Talks ongoing.

I don't understand the benefit of doing it straight up for the bucks. I could see how Grant Williams would make sense at least from the bucks perspective.

Straight up the Bucks won't do it hence the counter for an added piece.

Giannis and Thanasis are both friends with Dennis, apparently, and the Bucks have a horrendous bench scoring prowess at present. They obviously still need a Big. I'm not really that big a fan of Schroder BUT, alas, this seems to be their current focus.

I wonder if they might be fishing for a draft pick in return to allow them more flexibility on other trades? DDV for Schroder+1st/2nd rd pick. I think I read Schroder is a better ball handler, too? So we could shore up a couple weaknesses, plus flexibility on other trades.

Or maybe I'm dreaming. :)

Giannis is shooting 72% on free throws this year

The Bucks are now 23-5 when Giannis/Khris/Jrue all play and have a +13.5 net rating with all three on the court together.

For reference...

Curry/Wiggins/Green: 25-6 (+11.1)

Jimmy/Bam/Lowry: 12-5 (+7.2)

Paul/Booker/Ayton: 22-6 (+6.2)

Harden/KD: 21-11 (+2.1)

LeBron/AD: 10-8 (-0.7)

Curious, why do the Lakers suck? Shouldn't they be good?

Westbrook is a terrible fit & a pretty big net negative (On/Off of -6.7 pts/100 possessions) whenever he is on the court, LeBron has missed 17 games & is old enough to the point where he is still an All Star level player but not in the same tier as guys like Giannis or Jokic for impact, Davis has missed his standard 21 games so far & also has been a negative when on the floor, On/Off of -2.0 pts/100 possessions.

Lakers "Big Three" per 538's RAPTOR WAR...

LeBron (6.3 | 8th) Davis (2.9 | 73rd) Westbrook (-1.0 | 245th)

Westbrook is whatever you'd call the opposite of a 'complimentary player'. Just doesn't fit with that team at all. Westbrook is ball-dominant but so is LeBron, but Westbrook doesn't add any off-ball value. They had some ok complimentary players last year but they walked and what they've got now is pretty rough. They don't play defense at all. And Anthony Davis is the best 4 in the game (not sure what you'd call Giannis) but he's playing the 5 because Dwight Howard is their only other option there and Davis' skills get kinda muted without as much space to work.

But the Lakers are also full of older veterans who are typically used to going half-speed in the regular season.

If Brook comes back, this team will be a juggernaut. That would move Bobby back to 2nd team which helps the bench immensely.
