Bucks 2021-2022 season thread

reillymcshane
As of this post, I am not entirely sure what I think of the Bucks chance to repeat.

I read somewhere the Bucks are 15-3 when they start Giannis, Portis, Middleton, Holiday, and Allen, which is encouraging. That makes them 12-16 in the rest of their games, which isn't great, but some of those games they may have only had 1 or 2 preferred starters. I suspect they won't win 83% of their games when they play their preferred lineup, but I also think they are better than 12-16 when they are missing a piece or two, and hopefully we won't see a Jrue and Giannis plus the Herd when the playoffs start.

I am very curious to see how this team plays post-All Star Break, specifically down the stretch. I think I'll have a much better feel for the teams chances in the playoffs as they get closer to them. I will for sure feel a lot better if they are on a bit of a roll when the playoffs start.

Jrue and Giannis is fine but when Jrue is out that hurts the team a lot as they have to rely on Hill being the PG or Giannis being the PG which hurts both offensively and defensively. Missing Middleton hurts the least and to a lesser extent Lopez. Defensively there is a gap between Portis and Lopez but offensively there is not, I actually believe the offense is better with Portis in the lineup than with Lopez.

Jrue being out has hurt the Bucks a lot as the PG play takes a deep dive going from Jrue to Hill. Having Jrue out also hurts the guard rotations as DDV isn't 100% healthy and is still trying to get into a groove. The guard rotation with Jrue is nearly perfect as they can substitute and go smaller with Hill and DDV/Connaughton. The Bucks also have a good rotation with bringing in Allen/Matthews/Connaughton/Nwora/Hood for Middleton. I think the SF and SG position is covered very well with DDV, Connaughton, Hood, Nwora, Matthews and Allen. It is PG just like last year that is lacking. While I like Hill and what he brings to the team he is old and he shouldn't really be playing a lot of minutes as the main PG on a team.

I think once they get fully healthy and have their full rotation setup so some of the fringe players are not playing more minutes than they should be the Bucks will be ok. The Nets just lost KD for awhile and will be basically going through what the Bucks had to go through in the first half of the season though they were without Kyrie for awhile and still are somewhat.

Repeating is also hard to do in any sport. It is going to be hard for the Bucks to repeat but I think they have the best shot to repeat.

The problem isn't so much Jrue to Hill (Hill has been fantastic) the problem not having a legitimate third PG. The dropoff from Hill to.... DDV? Giannis? Middleton? Mamu? Whomever becomes that primary ball handler and calming force for the offense is massive.

It's an increasingly position-less league, but there are still essentially three positions; ball handler (Jrue, Hill), big (Giannis, Bobby) and wing (Khris, Grayson, Pat, Wes, DDV).

Sure, Giannis & Khris & maybe even DDV can handle the ball some too, but ideally in more of a secondary or tertiary capacity.

If they think Brook will be back that covers the third big in the rotation. No one has picked up Boogie yet, so maybe he'll be back after the trade deadline & buyout market when the roster is more sorted?

Only real assets for a possible deal are DDV & Nwora, but they should be enough to clear out some of the wing depth for another ball handler or big.

I would just like to see a run of 10 games with their three best players on the court.

I can almost look at it and say it was "a good hard play", but the continuation was completely unnecessary, and him standing over by the bench area laughing about it just makes me wish someone like Jokic or Cousins would punch him in his smug douchey face. His lack of awareness of who he is and where he's been as a basketball player is appalling.

Bulls fans want Allen thrown in jail. I thought it was called appropriately as a Flagrant 2. You have two 6’ 4’’ guys running at full speed and colliding in the air. Weird things are going to happen. Yes, there was probably too much follow-thru and talking by Grayson, but it wasn’t malicious. I’m just glad Caruso is OK.

If anyone seriously wants Allen thrown in jail, that's a bit much, but it wasn't a "weird thing", it was a dirty play by someone with a history of dirty play. I don't know how anyone can watch that play and say it wasn't 100% malicious.

Bulls fans are over-reacting, but Allen has 100% 10 times over earned his reputation as a dirty ..... word I can't say here. The reason people, players, and fans don't like him is he's a dirty player who goes out there and actively tries to hurt other players. I don't care that we're short handed, I legit hope he catches a few game suspension, and the rest of the team is like "eh, he needs to be careful about how he approaches the game".

I said when we got him, I won't root for Grayson Allen, and I'm sticking to it.

The sad thing is that he's actually a pretty dang good player. There is absolutely no legit reason for him to conduct himself in that manner. He isn't some sort of 13th man who an old school coach puts in to make a statement. He's a legit top 20 NBA off guard. But crap like this has labeled him as a dirty prick, and he'll likely never live it down.

The initial play was fine, he made a play on the ball. It was going to be a hard foul and a hard fall but that’s sports. The extra little follow through is what separates him and normal human beings. Probably didn’t even make the fall worse, but makes him look like an idiot.

This is his first Flagrant as a Buck. First ejection.

And, in true fashion, his legacy as a college player - doing stupid shenanigans that were rightfully called out - is once again going to pin him back in a corner as this ‘colossal dirty player’.

Personally, I find the hoopla around Grayson quite something. He isn’t a dirty player. That was a hard foul - an inappropriate foul in total - and he was awarded a Flagrant 2. The right call was made. This type of foul was commonplace in the 1990’s. Obviously, a different time period…but sheeeeesh.

Caruso out 6 - 8 weeks.

Bulls fans are livid

If we take the historic play of Giannis clotheslining Dunleavy JR in that game years ago, I’d say the Bucks are currently up 2-0.

And if we are being historically accurate, Dunleavy Jr. sucker punch cold cocked MCW in the Lane and broke his jaw. No suspension. Nada.

Sucks for Caruso. A very underrated player and a key piece for the Bulls. Was a hard questionable foul. Curious to see if the League doles out harsher punishment.

I think, as per usual, when things like this are slowed down it looks much worse than it was. Not a safe play but he went ball first - I don’t think you can read malicious intent into the play tho surely many will. It was the 2nd action of the swipe that made it a dangerous play. Bulls fans are rightfully ticked: they just lost another key player. Hopefully he has a good and speedy recovery.

Here's the thing.

If that had been Drue or Mids or George Hill dropping Caruso, it would have been an F-1. It was called an F-2 because it was Grayson Allen and his history of intentional kicking and elbowing people, and trying to injure people on purpose, and I'm 100% ok with that. He's lost his right to play in your face, hardnosed defense because of his past, crappy behavior. He had an opportunity, a long time ago, to reverse course, and he chose not to.

It is what it is. He earned this F-2 a long time ago. He has to live with it because of (many) crappy decisions he's made in his past. Unfortunately, so do the Bucks.

I am stunned that there are people defending Grayson as "not a dirty player." Because he went almost 50 games into his Bucks career without getting ejected he's not a dirty player? Really? I'm sure Ndamukon Suh had season long stretches of not stepping on fellow players in his career, it doesn't make him not a dirty player. Grayson absolutely is a dirty player who made a dirty play with malicious intent and no one should be defending it and no one here would if he wasn't wearing a Milwaukee Bucks uniform.

I don't really follow the Bucks or the NBA very much but as far as the Allen situation, I pretty much agree with everyone. I already hated the guy with him being a Duke product. He's a punk, and I'm glad Bud DNPed him last night. It's good the Bucks dealt with this from within. I'd DNP him another game.
