Bucks 2021-2022 season thread

After the rough start the Bucks are now one game back of the 2nd spot in the eastern conference. They still don't have Lopez or DDV back yet, so they're in pretty good shape, I think. Portis has really been playing solid ball. His defense isn't the same as what Lopez can do as a rim protector, but he definitely adds a little bit more than B Lopez as an all around scorer at this point in his career, and he's a better boarder.

Win #6 in a row for the Bucks tonight. Nice road win in Denver. I don't think anyone was really too concerned that they'd get it together and start stringing together some wins once they started getting guys back. They are who we thought they were...... Defending world champs, :D

Bucks are signing Boogie Cousins to a one year deal. Possible Lopez is going to be out longer than we know or expect?

Huh … I actually wondered about him a few weeks ago, but I thought that was me gravitating toward a big name. Seems like a pretty low risk move. They need a big man.

I mean, it's a back injury so who knows. Either way they needed another big, and this one is low risk.

Yeah. I'm cool with it. I don't expect vintage Boogie, but if he can come in and play 15 - 18 mpg at a decent level, he's a nice addition. He's a decent 3P shooter, so he can space the floor, he's a good passer for a big... he can do the things the Bucks are going to ask him to do. The biggest question is going to be can he stay on the floor.

Bucks now up to 9-0 in games Giannis, Khris & Jrue have all played with an average margin of victory over 14 points in those games.

Boogie will essentially be taking the minutes Thanasis & Semi have gotten so far, which is a pretty low bar to clear.

I don't mind TA getting some minutes because of his high energy defense and you just might see a highlight top ten play. Semi can sit on the end of the bench all year as far as I am concerned, I just don't see much in him.

Ja'Vonte Smart (PG) signed to two-way deal, Justin Robinson released. Smart played 3 years at LSU, undrafted this year ended up in the G league. Interesting in a small way, I know they were pretty encouraged by Robinson.

I know, if this were the Major League forum, I would be waiting for the "championship here we come" posts.

Boogie is a really nice NG'd addition for say 10-15 minutes a game. Great to spell Giannis and Bobby - excellent for Giannis overlap minutes. He is now 2 + years removed from major leg injuries and his game is very very amenable to Old Man All-Star status - great passer, good handle, excellent size, can shoot. What's not to love.

Ja'Vonte is a bit 'meh' for me at the moment in that, well, he certainly isn't a PG. Decent shooter, yes, but he has a slower release. Does this mean they are developing a 2? And, the John Wall rumors are true as another PG...or is DDV closer than we think? I don't know. It will be interesting to see what is shaking down the line.

Boogie is officially a Buck.

I just don't see how there's enough minutes (or touches) if they were to somehow bring in Wall. great player at a position we don't really have a need.

Would be nice to have someone that can keep a large lead so the starters do not have to come back in.

Yeah, if Wall comes to terms on a buyout with the Rockets I'd love to have him on the minimum, but he probably goes somewhere with a clearer path to playing time.

Bench should be fine once (if?) Brook & DDV get healthy.

Jrue / Grayson / Khris / Giannis / Bobby with Hill / DDV / Pat / Nwora / Brook is a solid ten.

Thanasis / Semi / Hood / Robinson have combined for 859 pretty useless minutes (around 16% of the team total) so far. Brook & DDV coming back for even 20 minutes each per game should hopefully alleviate the need to dip into the back third of the roster outside of garbage time.

pretty sure that's not the kind of role Wall sees for himself.

George Hill is averaging 27+ minutes per game, I'd be more than happy to give those minutes to Wall.

The only bump on the path to acquiring a John Wall is George Hill is currently a much better fit and is playing quite well for this version of the Bucks. This being said, the reason I'd want Wall is to take SOME of Hill's minutes. We all know George can't handle that as a consistent workload. And, more than likely, he'll come down with some form of calf or strange oblique injury that will relegate him to the Doctor's Office for weeks. Wall would be great insurance, good depth...but as others note above: He's probably looking for more substantial PT. IF, that's the case? He'll end up in LA so they can gladly push the Bledshow to the bench.

If Wall gets a buyout from the Rockets, he's going to have options and choices of where he can go. Unless he absolutely finds no other takers (not likely), he's not gonna come to MKE to play 20 - 25 minutes a game (what Hill's been getting since Jrue's been healthy) and be a backup and benchwarmer.

Probably not, unless he wants a ring and a chance to show he's still a great player. Then he can get a max deal somewhere. Highly unlikely, but possible. He could get enough minutes, they could go small at times with both him and Jrue on the court together. Stearns rules- get the talent and the pieces will fit.

Knicks are a player too, trying to unload Kemba.

Missed in all this discussion about Wall is the fact that he and Cousins are very close. Doesn't make Milwaukee the top fit if playing time is the priority but if winning and being around his pal play an oversized role then well it might just happen.

As are Boogie and Bledsoe, and Bled apparently had nothing but great things to say about Milwaukee.

Yup. That Cousins presser was reallly refreshing. Humble pie has treated him extremely well. Was great to hear Bled had such high opinions of Milwaukee and the organization. It bodes quite well. And it is just night and day from the Herb Kohl years.

Tuned in to see Boogie's debut. He did not disappoint. The man has high Basketball IQ. Passes like a savvy PG vet out there. 7/4/1 in 15 minutes of +9 ball? I'm all aboard. Here's hoping he stays healthy.

It's crazy the Bucks have the best basketball player on the planet. It really is. Giannis was out there hitting Hakeem-esque fadeaways like they were lay-ups.

The refs were ungodly bad. Worse than usual. They were reffing Giannis like he was an 18 yo from the Greek 2nd League. Hornets were unconscious from deep. A very fun young team (a team that should try to swap out Gordon Hayward to a ring chaser for some form of assets - their youth movement is legit and fun as hell).

Regardless: My main takeaway is, if he stays healthy, Boogie is one hell of a NG'd signing off the street.
