Is the Olympic court smaller than an NBA court? sure looked like it.

Molly Seidel from Brookfield, in only her third career marathon, wins the bronze and becomes only the third American woman to medal in the marathon. It was a very fun finish to watch.

I watched the last 20 minutes of her race that was included with the prime time coverage and was surprised by how many times the announcers mentioned Wisconsin. It was as if they couldn’t believe a good athlete could come from Wisconsin.

Congrats to Jrue and Khris, what a year for them winning both the NBA championship and Olympic gold.

I’m really happy for them (and glad they stayed healthy).

Give a lot of credit to Durant. He showed up and carried this team when a lot of other big names stayed home.

Yes but not all that significantly. About 2 feet shorter and 8 inches thinner. There are a bunch of subtle differences all over the court though, such as the tip-off radius being smaller and the key being slightly smaller that work together to play tricks on your eyes. They also use the WNBA 3-point line (WNBA actually copied theirs).

First time that's happened since 1992 (Jordan and Pippen)

Molly...WOW! My buddy texted me that the start time was moved up one hour. So I shut down my computer and high-tailed it after work. The reason I wanted to get home before the start was because I figured Molly would get a brief shout out by the commentators at the start line, maybe being the front for the first 5K and then fade back into the pack, never to be seen or heard about again. However, I got home just after the 5K split to my surprise Molly was in the lead pack. The thing about viewing live as opposed to the delay coverage on NBC was I was able to watch the race develop, the surrealness of seeing Molly in the lead group of 40 runners dwindling to 15 then to 8 then to 4. Side-by-side with the world's elites like Kosgei, who two years ago at Chicago bettered Paula Radcliffe's nearly unbreakable WR. At mile 22 where she starting dropping back in fourth, I said to my wife "Molly's smart, she just needs to maintain contact and let the three in front run each other into the ground and one will bonk". Sure enough, a couple of minutes later the Israeli runner abandons and Seidel was on her way. She was such an unknown on the world scene. I wonder where she on the learning curve, how much better can she get? If the games were last year, she wouldn't have done this. One athlete who benefitted from the C-19 delay. I still kick myself for not taking the time to watch her compete in high school. Strangely enough, this past week I made a business visit to a supplier and spent time with her dad, but didn't know at the time it was her dad until I saw him interviewed Friday night.

I think Allison Felix is a bit overhyped by NBC, not at the same level as Biles or Ladecky. But I give her credit for gutting it out and taking the bronze in the 400. At the US Trials, she went from 5th to 2nd in the final 100 to secure her spot in the event.

Ex-Badger Mo Ahmed (CAN) medaled in the 5000.

Good to see men's basketball take gold. Just when it looked like it was opening up, France keeps it competitive.

FRA defeats NED in team handball. France with a Jrue Holiday-like defensive stop with 15 seconds left to secure the gold. The sport is big in Europe.

Just saw Jessica Springsteen ride her horse. Wins a silver in Team Jumping.

Per tradition, men's marathon is the last event. Rooting for Kipchoge, who two years ago ran the first sub-2 (although not record eligible). Galen Rupp is not universally well liked in the American running community.

Felix is 35 years old and won her first medal at the 2004 games. She's incredible. I think that's wildly more impressive than what Biles has done, even though Biles was unquestionably more dominant in her sport.

True, she earned individual medals in five different Games. I think the more impressive thing is she did it across 100 to 400, which few can do. But her detractors will say six of her gold medals came on relays and only five individuals (1 G, 3 S, 1 B)

I think a performance like Carl Lewis’ in the 1984 games is more impressive (4 gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m, and the long jump), but that doesn’t detract from my respect for Felix.
