Giants offense

Anyone have any idea where the Giants are pulling this offense from? Almost 100 games into the season and they have a large number of guys 30+ having career years so far.

Posey's a HOFer. Great years by that level of player aren't that unusual and he's been relatively healthy. Opting out last year might have revitalized him. Crawford's been a quality SS for years. The thing that stands out about the Giants is their stability of their organization.

They changed the dimensions in the outfield before 2020, so it's only been 74 home games to this point, but it appears as though it isn't the extreme pitchers park that it used to be.

If that is the case, Giants hitters are currently not only getting the advantage of a more favorable home hitting environment, but are also double dipping in a sense since park adjusted stats like OPS+/wRC+ typically use multiple years of data & likely still consider Oracle a tough place to hit.

Asked a similar question in a FanGraphs chat a few weeks ago...

ROGELIO: Giants batting lines are crazy this year. Any chance Oracle is playing more like a hitters park since the re-configuration but park factors are still treating it as the pitcher’s park it has historically been?

Ben Clemens: Yes, a very good chance. Our park factors are designed to be slow-moving and look back a lot of years, but that doesn’t work well when stadiums change quickly

The Giants have had stability on the player side for sure with Posey, Crawford, Belt and even Cueto & Longoria to a lesser extent, but they completely overhauled their front office when they brought in Farhan Zaidi from the Dodgers prior to the 2019 season.

Park factors would definitely double inflate, but I was just looking at raw OPS totals and seeing 4 or 5 of them were posting career bests. Given that almost all of them were long time Giants though just the switch to a more neutral park could be a big driver. It does mean their pitching might be better than I was giving them credit for though.

They mentioned during the Draft that the Giants were going off the 3TO standard and concentrating on contact hitters. Other teams are now trying to imitate that (including the Brewers with their recent draft?).

The Brewers and 6th in MLB in K% and the Giants are 7th, and we have the same exact walk rate tied for 4th best. What they do better than us is hit for power. 160 ISO vs 191. A better example of a good offense with a more contact oriented style is San Diego. They're about even with us in walks and ISO, but strike out 4% less leading to 12% better offense production by wrc+.

Nope, but I'm hoping they keep it up long enough to force LAD into a wild card game. Not that the Giants are some cakewalk, but let's just get rid of LA.

Brewers still have to take care of business but would be nice if two west team face off in Wild Card and then Giants and Wild Card winner face each other.
