Cleveland announces new team name

Seems very minor league to me, and I think the logo is terrible. Were my second favorite baseball team, but I think I'm out.

Yeah, don’t really care for the logo. I guess it matters most what Cleveland fans think, but as an outsider I thought the Spiders thing had legs.

I know its very hard to brand a professional sports team these days. But Seattle did an excellent job with their hockey team. It can be done but its takes creativity. This screams double A to me.

Maybe it is just me....but I feel like, if you gotta change your name, you should just blow up the entire uniform line and logo design. Blow up your colors and just be new.

 

Most fans are probably mad and think it is unneeded. You could have at least made an exciting reveal and new design to want people to buy the new gear. I mean, wouldn't you want to motivate people to not wear the Indians gear anymore? I don't know...feels like they missed an opportunity here.

The Meaning.

The relevance of Guardians to Cleveland appears to be their “Guardians of Traffic” statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge. I wonder what the baseball team will become known as guardians of? Maybe Guardians of the Diamond, or Guardians of the Cuyahoga?

I mean yah, sure, the name has some city meaning. Social media would tell me that fans do not care, at all. I am sure the two G's in the logo are suppose to look like the guardian things in the city a little bit and they are "guarding" the baseball. This is what happens when you get a city historian and a graphics designer to decide everything.

 

People want a cool name and a sweet looking logo. Not something an 70 year old that hangs out at the library would think is cool. I mean, do we think this is something the younger generation wants to rock? LOL

Unless the Guardians winds up with all the Marvel guardians as mascots, they should just have gone with 'baseball team' for their name.

Kraken was overwhelming the fan's choice for the name and it does have local meaning, as previously posted. If any professional team was the brewers outside of here, it would also be "out of place".

 

But, sorry i brought up the Kraken, it wasn't my intent to judge them, rather just state Guardians is horrible

When there are a million amateur graphic designers they could have had something inspired instead of yet another focus grouped corporate board room inspired logo.

I think the name is fine. It has a local connection to Cleveland and maybe is meaningful to people in NE Ohio. I really like the art deco winged baseball logo. It looks like something from a 1940s cartoon. I like that it has feathers, to still connect back to their historic imagery. Also, their script 'Guardians' connects back, with the '..dians" lettering.

 

I'm not a fan of their new block letter font. The C and E are visually unappealing to me.

 

Otherwise, I'm glad that they're moving on. It's hard to be forced into changing your identity after 100+ years, but they seemed to have done so in a way that touches a local identity, isn't offensive, and also has elements that connect to their past.

If you get rid of the baseball and just make it a 2D "G" with a wing, I think it could work. I would probably make the wing less, uh, wingy.

 

Or if you wanted a baseball, them embed it inside the bottom part of the G

Nothing could be as ugly and bland as the Brewers logo in the 90s. The official logo in the 2000s wasn't great, but the M barley was pretty cool and quickly became the official logo for most instances. It was actually the primary logo for 18-19.
