21-year old fireballer Abner Uribe (3.66 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 14.1 K/9 in 33.0 innings) makes his 4th start, as the Mudcats try to make it two straight over Down East:

Versatile and powerful Weston Wilson (.933 OPS, 14 HR, started at 6 positions this year) anchors the Sounds, which also seek a 2nd straight win:

Short bench even shorter? Gabriel Garcia last played on the 16th.

ALL WET: LHP Nick Bennett allowed no hits and just one unearned run in his 4.1 inning start, but didn't like his wild pitch, six walks and two HBP's. Click the link.

Chad Spanberger was 0-for-4 with two K's coming off his huge night Wednesday. In that game, he raised his admittedly struggling OPS from .592 to .682 (in one game, 53 games into his season!).

VIDEO: Brice Turang's home run

Bally Sports pointed out that Turang has stopped walking, one of his usual calling cards. He now has not drawn a free pass in his last 13 games.

Do you remember the details of the July 2016 trade in which he was acquired by the Crew? How about the June 2018 deal in which he was shipped out?

South Bend Outlasts Wisconsin 6-4

Cubs take early lead and hold on to beat Rattlers

By Chris Mehring

Uneven rehab start for RHP Dylan File, whose final line was somewhat salvaged by LHP Arman Sabouri stranding three baserunners for him. Although as you'll hear below within the podcast, it wasn't all that ugly.

Timber Rattlers walked nine times, and base-on-balls magnet Hayden Cantrelle (0-for-5) didn't have any of them.

RH reliever Taylor Floyd continues to shine.

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Soundcloud: "The Timber Rattlers and the South Bend Cubs battled for nearly four hours on Thursday night before the Cubs won 6-4. Chris Mehring and Kyle Lobner look for the positives for the Rattlers in a game where the teams combined to lead 30 runners on base, hit 4-for-28 with runners in scoring position, and ...well....lots and lots of stuff."

Top six in the lineup all reached at least twice. This offense can be relentless.

What if triple-digit flame-thrower Abner Uribe (three wild pitches, two of them run-scoring) dialed it back just a notch?

More combined fine pitching peripherals (one walk, nine K's). Two wild pitches, one HBP mixed in.

Until the final play, a Luis Castillo (17-year-old Dominican LH-hitting RF) single that broke a 4-4 tie, the three-run game-winning rally did not feature a hit. Rookie ball!

17-year-old rookie Venezuelan SS Jadher Areinamo had a big day, 4-for-5 two doubles, three RBI.

His countrymate, recently-turned 18-year-old RF Eduarh Colina was 3-for-4 (HR, two singles, HBP).

Yet another Venezuelan first-year player, 1B Yesbel Herrera, 18 as of last May, homered, singled, and drove in three.

OK, it was a Venezuelan party, as prized top signing 17-year-old CF Jackson Chourio continues his heat-up (HR, double, walk).

It was the first pro taters for each of Colina, Herrera and Chourio, a day the teenagers will always remember.

Excellent start by 18-year-old Nicaraguan RHP Jared Albir.

Wrapping up was 19-year-old Dominican RHP Waldin Rodriguez in his pro debut.

Oh my, Erys Bautista

The 19-year-old switch-hitting 1B (and occasional corner OF) smacked three home runs, driving in four. Bautista was signed for $500,000 out of the Dominican Republic as part of the July 2018 signing class.

18-year-old Venezuelan 3B Jheremy Vargas maintained his 1.088 OPS with a home run of his own, as we all pencil in his RH bat at the hot corner in 2026.

Rehabbing infielder Antonio Pinero continues to toy with this league's pitchers and hopefully brings that stroke with him to higher levels eventually.

18-year-old Venezuelan catcher and Top Ten Pipeline Brewers prospect Jeferson Quero singled twice, drove in a run, and now is 3-for-3 in SB attempts on the young season.

Important relief work over the final 4.1 scoreless innings by 20-year-old Venezuelan RHP Wilkerman Chourio and soon-to-be 22-year-old LHP Karlos Morales (2017 25th round pick).

"Hedbert!" 2-run HR in the 1st, he would later walk.

Rehabbing Mario Feliciano doubled, walked, scored twice, and drove in two. Caught the whole game (two stolen bases against, one throwing error).

19-year-old LF and Dominican Republic native Eduarqui Fernandez hit his first stateside home run (hit 11 in 266 AB's in the DSL in 2019). Brewers have $1.1 million invested in him.

23-year-old RHP T.J. Shook, who looked strong in three Mudcat starts to begin this season, allowed one home run in his two inning rehab debut.

Based on the four rookie level game updates, you all should have a sense of how critical the development of Latin American farmhands will be to the future of this organization.

Think we could see an extremely pitching heavy draft just out of necessity?

Seems like a ton of position prospects all getting crammed into Carolina next year, with two drafts worth of college bats going to Appleton.
