2021-07-21: Royals (Keller) at Brewers (Lauer) [Brewers lose, 6-3 -- Crew allows 5 unearned runs]

To me, the much bigger problem is only scoring 2 or 3 runs or less in games against mediocre pitching. If the Brewers don’t add some runs here they will have lost 7 of their last 12 and scored 3 or fewer runs in every one of the losses, and only 14 total in the 7 games. It takes almost perfect pitching to overcome that.

So what your saying is that if you only look at LOSING games, the Brewers offense doesn't do well?

You do realize that if you THINK about it, that's what you would expect because THEY LOST THOSE GAMES!!@!@!

If you only look at the games the Brewers WON, you're going to find an offense that's near top of the league. Does that make the offense great? No, because you count the losses too... The Brewers have the 3rd best record in the NL and are 7ish games ahead of the 2nd place team. That means they're doing a lot more right than wrong.

I bet if you looked at the games the Brewers don't score at all, they never win!!!! Can you make any other conclusions based on a few outlier games? NOPE...

No, what I was saying is that the Brewers have been losing games much more because of poor offense than because of poor pitching. Scores of 2-0, 4-2, 4-3, 2-0, 4-3, 3-1, 5-2, and 6-3 would bear that out. It’s not like the pitching is falling apart and they’re losing games 9-8. When you only allow 30 runs in 8 games you should expect to win a couple.

One stat that really jumps out at me is that the Brewers are 11-9 in games in which they have allowed exactly 2 runs. Across the whole league, teams are winning about 75% of games in which they allow 2 runs. In other words, the Brewers have an unusually high number of 2-0 and 2-1 losses, evidence that they have squandered too many well pitched games.

The Brewers record establishes that they are doing more right than wrong. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be better. And one of the obvious ways it could be better is to take better advantage of the excellent pitching by cutting down on those games of scoring 2 runs or less.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I cared. I shucked out the money to go to this "Supposed" game. Thoughts...

1. Normally I arrive extremely early to games. This was not possible today, but we came up to the preferred parking exit at Mitchell Blvd.from the North at about 12:15 so I thought we would be OK. I have heard fans from other teams complain about the entrance/exit from the stadium for years. Today I experienced it. The Line barely moved. Traffic was backed up to 26 street. No Police officers directing traffic.....nothing but cones and barricades. Then we get close to Mitchel and we saw that everyone coming off the major highway into preferred parking could only enter 1 lane into the parking lot. One lane off a major highway for preferred......did I mention preferred parking. Then the long lines for the 8 metal detectors behind home plate where most fans come in. We did not get to our seats until the end of the second inning even though we were right outside the stadium exit one hour before game time.

2. After the game, the same treatment. Nothing but barricades and cones. You are on your own. This treatment is embarrassing for a pro team. Brewer administration, help you fans out, I felt used. You want to take extra money for preferred parking, treat it as preferred.

3. May not go to any more of these kids/senior citizens day games. Counsel treats them as throwaways. Been to three of them this year and haven't seen a quality starting pitcher yet. Saw a retread has been who couldn't get an out, a triple A kid who couldn't get out of the 1st inning and losing record Lauer. Funny...the prices weren't cheaper for these throwaway games. Premum prices....crappy treatment.

3 The stadium really has no bad seats. I enjoy watching a game there.

4, Like everything these days, the concession stands are undermanned but the people who work them apologize and try their best. No slackers here. For ballpark food, the menu is very good.

5. Today's game was poorly played, slow, and boring The scorer gave the Crew 2 errors but there were really 4. Only a couple of solid singles and Yellich's double were hit hard. The rest were lazy fly balls and easy ground balls. Not much hit hard. The Royals hit a lot of hard hit balls. Can't remember a crew hit past the 3 run inning????

6. Losing 5 in a row at home is never a good thing.

I'll agree with oldguy on the preferred parking. Always seems to take way too long to get in or out to be considered preferred. I pretty much always go to the Molitor lot which is much easier to get in and out of but a little harder to find if you are not familiar with the area.

Looks like I was wrong about that comeback.

Still, I'll give them a mulligan here. Played sloppy. Lost. Move on.

You've put yourself in a great spot here. 6.5 game lead. 65 to go. That's a ton of baseball, but even if you play .500, someone's really gonna have to rip off a bunch to catch you.

I get what you are saying but we had no business getting swept by one of the worst team in all of baseball. They played like garbage. If they continue to do so, especially on defense against the White Sox this weekend, it could get ugly.

This is why I just shuttle in now.

We live in the north shore and I never take I-94 to a game. I get off 43 at Highland, take that to 35th St. and then Wisconsin and Bluemound to the park entrance there. We can leave the house less than an hour before the game starts and be parked, through the security screeners, and in our seats in plenty of time.

Reds lost anyway, so no serious loss.

I hope Cubs and Cards just split their series. Average each other out.

Probably too late to post this, but this game is free on MLB TV tonight.
