2021-07-21: Royals (Keller) at Brewers (Lauer) [Brewers lose, 6-3 -- Crew allows 5 unearned runs]

Peterson has had a great year but we really need to see what we have with Rowdy before the deadline. Regardless I think we need a right handed bat for the position but why did we trade for him if he isn't going to start.

Suter needs to be demoted or have his role change drastically.

He gives up hits/runs nearly every outing now ... it is dreadful ...

Go Brewers!

Wake up, Counsell!

Suter hadn't given up an earned run since July 7, giving him four straight scoreless appearances.

I have no doubts that Counsell is awake

I still have high hopes that Ashby can make an impact out of the pen, but his debut certainly was deflating. I think Hader's immediate impact in MLB probably has thrown my expectations out of whack for Ashby. He's probably not going to be that guy.

Ashby has to work out his control issues before he can ever be trusted in high leverage situations at this level.

I would not consider either groundball that was booted hard hit.

Again, defense should have made both of those plays but what about the double to right? Or the single to center by Dozier? Those were smoked. and Santana hit his hard as well.

The hit to right should never have happened. The Dozier hit was off the label and wasnt smoked.

One of the outs was an absolute meatball down the center of the plate that Suter got away with to Perez for a flyout. It works the other way, too. Suter didn't look good, and the poor defense exasperated it.

I'm not saying Suter was top notch today, but he should have been out of that inning with no runs allowed.

The Brewers have been sluggish in all areas in these two games.

Hopefully getting a couple of their top pitchers on the mound will wake them up this weekend. They’re going to be up against pitching far better than what the Royals are rolling out there.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I guess "that's baseball." You "make a statement" by sweeping a division rival on the road, then carelessly throw away 2 home games against a team that's dead last in their division. It's pretty sad. They'd better get it together for the White Sox or it'll be a lost weekend.

Jake definitely needs to be used in higher leverage situations.

That’s fine, but it takes more than one guy to cover one inning when the starter only goes 5.

Cousins also had a significant hiccup in the game against the Reds when he uncorked consecutive wild pitches and gave up a single with the bases loaded to turn a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 deficit.

To me, the much bigger problem is only scoring 2 or 3 runs or less in games against mediocre pitching. If the Brewers don’t add some runs here they will have lost 7 of their last 12 and scored 3 or fewer runs in every one of the losses, and only 14 total in the 7 games. It takes almost perfect pitching to overcome that.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

And perfect defense too; at least not this shabby display in the field

If he’s healthy, why not give Hader an inning here? He’s only pitched one inning since the ASG, and was shaky in that one with a walk and a bullet that Urias fortunately turned into a game saving DP. And he was serving up gopher balls before that.

If they need Hader for a save this weekend there might be some concern that he’ll be rusty again.

Agreed. I should have said perfect pitching and fielding.

Looks like I was wrong about that comeback.

Still, I'll give them a mulligan here. Played sloppy. Lost. Move on.

You've put yourself in a great spot here. 6.5 game lead. 65 to go. That's a ton of baseball, but even if you play .500, someone's really gonna have to rip off a bunch to catch you.

So what your saying is that if you only look at LOSING games, the Brewers offense doesn't do well?

You do realize that if you THINK about it, that's what you would expect because THEY LOST THOSE GAMES!!@!@!

If you only look at the games the Brewers WON, you're going to find an offense that's near top of the league. Does that make the offense great? No, because you count the losses too... The Brewers have the 3rd best record in the NL and are 7ish games ahead of the 2nd place team. That means they're doing a lot more right than wrong.

I bet if you looked at the games the Brewers don't score at all, they never win!!!! Can you make any other conclusions based on a few outlier games? NOPE...

This season and Central Division pennant are far from over. Their hitting hasn't been great all year and they are definately prone to long droughts.
