Link Report for Monday 7/19

Brewer Fanatic Staff

Box: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 6, DSL Mariners 0, seven innings

Handing the 5-1 Mariners their first defeat.

A couple of Venezuelan 2nd-year RHP's in 19-year-old Edwin Jimenez and 18-year-old (soon-to-be-19) Rafael Camacho teamed up for the two-hit shutout, with nice peripherals to boot.

Second baseman Luis Watter exited after grounding out in the 4th, for you folks like myself who often read too much into mid-game departures.

Balanced offensive attack, with contributions from eight of the starting nine.

Box: DSL Phillies White Squad 3, DSL Brewers #1 squad 1

Serious question: Does this Phillies team ever wear the road grays?

OK, everyone, let the hype train begin.

19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Miguel Segura's first two pro starts:

July 12: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K

July 19 (box score linked above): 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K

To our knowledge, he's not a big-bonus guys, because let's face it, that's not how the Brewers roll on the international market. They splurge on prospective bats and trust their scouts to locate arms.

Only three Brewer hits here, but one of them (of course) was credited to 17-year-old LH-hitting RF Hendry Mendez and his 1.256 OPS over his debut six pro games.

I really thought, given the number of pitchers who had to be brought over to fill out the two Arizona League rosters, that the DSL pitching staffs were going to be an understandable disaster. The fact that they so far, albeit in a limited number of games, have been pretty solid is a testament to the players, coaches and scouts. Here's hoping it continues.

Box: ACL Brewers Gold 13, ACP Padres 1

Soon-to-be-19-year-old Dominican RHP Brailin Rodriguez got the start, followed by two "veterans' of the Phillies and Mets organizations, respectively, in RHP's Justin Miller and Christian Tripp. The 6'7" Tripp in particular should be in Carolina soon.

Mario Feliciano 2-for-5 including a triple in his first rehab game (shoulder). He was the DH here.

CF "Hedbert!" (single, walk), 1B Jesus Chirinos (3-for-3, walk, 1.263 OPS) and just-turned 19-year-old SS Eduardo Garcia (3-for-5, two doubles, triple, six RBI) all impressed, as they have been nearly daily.

Almost eerie -- if you remember, Orlando Arcia lost an early development year (2012) with a severe ankle injury. Garcia, also out of Venezuela, lost most of 2019 with a a right fibula fracture. Garcia sits at #8 on the MLB Brewers' Top 30 Pipeline.

In his age 22 season, once-heralded signee catcher Jose Sibrian is technically in his 6th pro season (counting the service time year of 2020, so let's call it his 5th). He missed all of 2017 after back surgery.

Rehabbing OF Micah Bello had success in his prior rehab games. Leading off here, that was not the case in this one. What is that even called? Four is golden, five is platinum. Laugh it off, Micah.
