Box: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 5, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 0, seven innings

Brewers win!

Brewers lose!

Combined one-hitter for the #1 group, as three pitchers combined. 2nd-year pro 19-year-old Colombian RHP Fray Morelo went the first four innings, allowing a double in the 2nd.

Pro debut for pitcher #2 Anthony Perez, two innings for the Dominican native.

LHP Leoni De La Cruz finished up, we'll have to see if he follows a timeline similar to current big league RHP Miguel Sanchez. De La Cruz was signed out of the Dominican Republic in June having just turned 23.

RF Hendry Mendez doubled and singled and is off to a 1.318 OPS in his first five pro games. This is his age 17 season.

CF Mendy Ferreira was 1-for-3 in his pro debut, 18 years old out of the D.R>

***

17-year-old Dominican RF Duncan Garcia had the lone knock for Team Two. It was his first pro hit (2nd game).

Jackson Chourio watch -- now 0-for-16.

Five arms saw mound time --

19-year-old Dominican RHP Domingo Mejia started in his pro debut. Also debuting, 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Gerson Calzadilla and 19-year-old Dominican RHP Gregory Baez.

***

So, guessing many of you are like me, and asking, how many LHP's on the two DSL teams?

Including all pitchers on injured, restricted, and suspended lists, there are 35 pitchers and there are only four LHP's among them.

Perhaps why Leoni De La Cruz was inked so late, had that going for him.

Box: ACL Brewers Blue 2, ACL Brewers Gold 1, seven innings

Blue now 5-5, Gold 2-5

Blue:

Four pitchers combined - 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 9 K

Ballyhooed 18-year-old Venezuelan catching prospect Jeferson Quero is 4-for-16 but with seven walks in his debut campaign.

RF Alwinson Valdez had a nice game, on base thrice.

***

Gold:

CF Micah Bello 2-for-3 with a stolen base, as rehab is going nicely.

Season debut for 19-year-old Eduarqui Fernandez as the DH. The $1,100,000 bonus baby posted a .674 OPS in 72 games as a 17-year-old on the island in 2019.

RHP Andy Garcia, 19, walked six in three innings.

RHP Keegan McCarville made his third rehab appearance as he comes back from June 2020 Tommy John surgery.

Nashville Records Three Hits in Setback

Weston Wilson on-base three times.

As Voice of the Sounds Jeff Hem points out, odd couple of nights.

In case you missed it in the Transaction Thread, LHP Ethan Small landed on the IL Saturday. I checked out Jeff's broadcast via MiLB.TV, and Jeff indicated there's tendinitis in a finger on Small's pitching hand.

Corey Ray officially was placed on the IL, kidney infection. He had been close to coming back from a leg injury for which he had yet to be officially IL'd.

Both Small and Ray expected to be out at least a couple of weeks.

You never see the affiliate broadcasters posting injury info on Twitter, for instance, but apparently they are allowed to mention these non-in-game-action injury issues in their broadcasts.

In-game injuries are clearly more evident.

OF Derek Fisher and C Christian Kelley were in the original lineup, but were late scratches and are listed as day-to-day. My goodness, what's going on?

Then, SS Kevin Kramer exited unexpectedly to begin the 3rd inning. With Pablo Reyes (optioned but not in town yet), Zach Green came in from his scheduled night off. Payton Henry is gone from the ballclub with a personal situation.

So the Sounds roster is paper-thin again.

Just noticed that Cooper Hummel played catcher last night.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Did Clancy get hired to manage for a game at AAA?

No, Hummel's seen some action behind the plate this season. Seems to be doing good, since there aren't any errors or passed balls in the box scores...

I watched him back there for one of the games last week. He was catching Lindblom at the time. Seemed to receive pretty well honestly. I was surprised how comfortable he looked back there. I didn’t see him have to block many pitches or make any throws, but the receiving was cool to see. Looked passable back there, at least.
