Wonderful fightback from the Shuckers, from down 8-1 to tied 8-8. Now in extra innings, David Fry just needs a single to complete his cycle.

Given their heart, I think this team would see results with just a little talent injection (e.g. Howell, Dillard, Luna, Floyd).

Wow, Floyd with a candidate for best pitching line of the year!

Once some of the potential backfill guys complete their rehab stints or show the organization what they can do in Arizona, I wonder if we'll see promotions to AA for both Floyd and Reifert (9 1/3 innings, 3 hits, 3 walks, 17 strikeouts in last six appearances).

Heck of a three-inning pro debut start for 18-year-old Dominican RHP Patricio Aquino, fanning seven. He combined for the shutout with two 2nd-year pro's (I'm not considering the idle 2020 year a pro season for anyone here, although yes, it counted as service time).

It's only four games (team is 2-2), but there are several impressive OPS' early, so let confidence build without digging out of early holes.

First win for the 1-3 #2 Crew.

Only three hits in the win, a productive groundout and sacrifice fly did the job in the top of the 9th. Jackson Chourio 0-for-13, two walks, can't buy a hit - bad pun for the $1.9M international top signing.

18-year-old Venezuelan SS Alexander Perez is sporting a .556./.615/.889 line after his first four pro games, and to be honest, I'd be happy if every Brewer signing was a shortstop out of Venezuela. Hyperbole, but only a bit.

Awesome pro debut for RHP Junior Castillo. He stranded three runners for his starter, then tossed two additional scoreless, nice!

Now this should go to Jayson Stark of ESPN for his "Weird and Wild" column!

RHP Jonathan Cruz - two scoreless, hitless innings with four K's and only one walk, yet he managed to throw four wild pitches, including three in one inning. Before your brain overloads as to how that was possible, let's just say that one was on a strike three pitch.

I'm telling you, every box score tells its own story, they are amazing.

Box: ACL Angels 8, ACL Brewers Gold 7

From July 9th:

Former Phillies farmhand 23-year-old RHP Justin Miller has now made a single appearance for each Maryvale team, and has suffered the last-inning defeat in each. 4.50 WHIP after two games. Ouch.

You may want to cover your eyes as you review the 9th inning game log. Hang in there, Justin!

LF Micah Bello on base three times as rehab continues.

"Hedbert!" three hits, two of them doubles.

More corner infield production from Jesus Chirinos and Alberis Ferrer.

As of post time here, the ACL Brewers Blue box score had yet to be available.

Box: ACL Brewers Blue 6, ACL Mariners 2, seven innings

RHP Brandon Ramey, one of the three pitchers received from Philadelphia in the 2020 David Phelps trade, made his 2nd appearance with a scoreless frame, three strikeouts in his "opener" start. Ramey was supposed to pitch in Australia last winter, and did head Down Under, but never pitched with what was described as a minor wrist ailment at that time. Likely it wasn't so minor after all.

RHP Justin Topa, also rehabbing, posted an identical line to Ramey.

Solid bulk-inning effort by RHP Rafael Garcia.

***

Six of seven on the basepaths for the guys, with the two guys who have experience above Maryvale, the middle infield duo of Daniel Castillo and rehabbing Antonio Pinero, combining for five on big offensive nights.
