Baseball is weird……sure doesn’t feel like he has pitched all that well but it’s working out.

The Brewers have won eight of Adrian Houser's last nine starts including seven in a row. He has a 3.45 ERA in that nine-game span and a 4.14 ERA in the last seven.

Guess JBJ is not lost anymore

Good for him. Doesn’t dispute the fact that he is one of the worst qualified hitters in baseball. Keep throwing that moderator power around pal.

If you're asking for it maybe they should...

Asking for what? To be ridiculed for posting. Nah. Don’t care who you are that isn’t the job of a moderator.

At least you're handling it well.

I wonder if Shaw will even have a spot when he comes off the IL. He wasn't really doing so hot before he got hurt. Between him and Vogelbach maybe one of them goes, Shaw has the positional versatility but Vogelbach was better at the plate. I'd consider DFA-ing Shaw depending on the team's injury situation when he's ready to be activated.

Honestly, I'd DFA both Shaw and Vogelbach if we had to make a decision tomorrow.

But we have until next month on both of them - probably at least around mid-August - at the earliest. We can see how Hiura, Peterson and Rowdy are doing at that point.

I just don't see a ton of upside with either of them.

Right. And there's also whatever trades get made, a left hand hitting 3B/1B could come in to make both guys expendable. I do get the feeling Stearns likes Vogelbach as a potential future DH but if he's let go it wouldn't bother me.

I’d prefer Shaw and Vogelbach to Hiura and Tellez…..especially since we can send them down. Plus you can bring 1 or both of them back when rosters expand to 28 or if somebody else gets hurt.

We lose a right handed bat in the exchange but with Hiura not sure that even means anything.

The trading deadline will probably determine what they do with them…..if we add anyone then somebody has to go.

I think we'll get to keep both around. There'll inevitable be an injury to backfill, and they can always slow roll a rehab assignments and take one of the added spots in September.

Correct. You could just work their disable dates and rehab until after Sept 1 - making them eligible to for the September roster and post season play.

Counsell got away with starting a pitcher against a team against which he had posted a WHIP near 2 and then proceeded to increase it.

Thank goodness the offense broke out of its Reds funk to pull out a win.

Would it be unsportsmanlike of me to hope that Castellanos has a bruised hand that will keep him out of the lineup for at least two days?

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Probably a little. I really don’t want to hope that anyone gets hurt. It seems to bite you back in the end.

The lineup surely felt different after he was out, though.

Uggh a Cubs fan caught that home run. Nothing bothers me like Cubs apparel at non-Cubs games.

It bugs someone else, too.

Whenever I go to a game in another park I always wear a Brewers T shirt and cap. I think it’s fun to see other parks and teams without having a strong rooting interest. There’s nothing to get mad about.

The last time I did that at the Mariners park in July of 2018 a teenager wearing a Rizzo jersey informed me that he wasn’t at all concerned about the Brewers because he only worried about big market teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, and Red Sox. Maybe he should have been more concerned about the Brewers.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Whenever anyone thinks that the Reds are a major threat, I'm going to remember their bullpen and LOL

They pointed out on the telecast that, until tonight, the Reds bullpen had an ERA of under 2 over the last month or so. They haven’t been nearly as bad as they were earlier in the season. As their starting pitching has improved, they haven’t had to cover as many innings with the bottom of their bullpen. Between guys returning from injuries and late season moves I wouldn’t count on their bullpen being that bad the rest of the way.

I don't know about that. There is no one in that pen that is threatening. Sure they could string together some decent outings. But nothing scary there. Just a bunch of guys.

When Cain returns Taylor will go back down…..Telliz or Hiura will probably go down when Shaw or Vogelbach comes back.

It will work out one way or another.

Taylor should not be sent down.

Not to worry, Cain will be hurt inside of two weeks, so Taylor will be back upagain anyway.

Well, whaddya know, Brewers start Houser, come back from three down and win.

Sometimes trusting the analytics and the long view works.

The analytics would be to not start Houser again against the Reds hitters. Even the game that went somewhat well (July 8), he loaded the bases twice the first two innings, and first and second in the 3rd, and had several hard hit balls.

The long view, as in resting a 25 yr old Peralta until next week, I can understand. His inning totals will Lord willing be up there at season’s end, and rest here and there will help.

The Brewers are 1-0 when Ashby starts so let’s get him back out there as soon as possible.

I wear Brewers shirts a lot of the time so I’d probably wear one to another sport/team as well. I think it’s more my disdain for the Cubs and Cubs fans, so when I see them it irritates me. :laughing
