While he hasn’t been able to hit much at FSU outside of bombs, I wouldn’t mind going with Elijah Cabell. Really wanted him to sign out of high school. Raw tools are there. Once you get to these rounds, buy the loud tools over production. His power & arm are both very good

It's really easy to forget that Woodruff was an 11th round pick. I know he might be a rarity, but it still goes to show that you can sometimes find some elite talent at this point in the draft.

Yeah believe in the 14th. He was a top 200 kid then with signability issues. He has 70-80 raw power but K% is insanely high. Buy the game changing tool & hope you can coach up the rest.

Perfect example of buying the loud tool in these 10+ rounds. Woodruff threw gas in college but couldn’t hit a strike zone. He had solid freshman year, okay sophomore year, and just train wreck junior year where he was removed as a starter. Had 25bb to 29ks in 37 ips. Era over 6. But he had raw stuff there to coach up. Luckily Brewers got it out of him!

Kobe King (4.6% swinging strike rate), Caleb Upshaw (115 MPH max exit velo) and Conor Grady (28.2% & 23.1% swinging strike rates on change-up & slider) from the FanGraphs Statistical Diamonds in the Rough article all appear to still be on the board.

In the summer of 2019, Riggio played on a scout team against what would eventually be USA Baseball’s 18-and-under national team as a tune-up for Team USA before international competition and arguably was the best performer on either team at the time. An alum of Team USA himself -- he hit .480 for the 15U team that won gold in the Pan Am Games in 2017 -- Riggio was not as impressive this summer as he had been previously, but he did impress with how he swung the bat during his high school season this spring.

 

More than anything, Riggio is about his left-handed bat. He has a knack for barreling up the baseball and making loud contact with excellent bat speed. He has gotten stronger and has legitimate power, especially to the pull side, that should only increase as he continues to mature. Riggio is a real grinder who clearly loves to hit.

 

Beyond that, however, are some question marks. Riggio doesn’t run all that well, often opting out of running 60-yard dashes at events, and it’s unclear what his defensive home should be. He’s played both second and the outfield, with scouts feeling he’s probably better suited to be an offensive-minded second baseman than a center fielder. Hitters do find a way into the lineup and a team that believes enough in the bat will sign the Oklahoma State recruit and figure out where to put him.

Roc Riggio to the Brewers is very interesting. If they get that done (and almost every 11th rounder signs) that's a tough loss for Oklahoma State's recruiting class

Was wondering if Riggio was going to go. LHH who can really hit and has power too, 2B/LF fit defensively but strength of the bat projection is really good. #PGDraft

Riggio was considered a top-four-round talent entering the draft. The #Brewers have to be confident they will sign him and explains why they took some of the players they did in the first 10 rounds. The signing bonus money they save on those picks will go towards Riggio.

Riggio is a name that, oddly enough, I have followed a bit. I am beyond excited about this pick.

 

For those that were looking yesterday for a Burnes-like name to be excited about drafting a bit later than the big names in the early rounds, this one is it.

Roc Riggio is the highest rank draft pick this round by a good margin. Good reminder to not get too worked up about rounds 5-10 when they are obviously saving money for rounds 11-20.

Damn. #Brewers get Caden Vire out of Skyview HS in Vancouver. Love this pick. Was a Top 200 guy for me. Lots of funk and big projection. Great body. Fastball still topping in the Low-90s, but there's more coming. Slider and changeup present tons of deception from short-arm action

Jace Avina has a solid all-around toolset and athleticism. Triangle type player who should be able to play one or more of SS/2B/CF. Drafted as an OF. Some scouts like his swing a lot, some think there need to be a few tweaks.

#Brewers continue interesting Day 3 with OF Jace Avina. One of the younger players in the class. Athletic with a good glove and smooth right-handed swing. Milwaukee *could* sign both him and Davis after going all college in Rounds 1-10.

Wow...talk about a flurry of HS picks so far today. I assume that our scouting dept must feel good about their ability to sign these kids, if we are taking them here? Or, do we see a couple of these guys being tough to sign?

 

I would hope that we could at least get the Riggio deal done, as that looks like a major steal in this draft if we can.

Given the 1 day break I would think they did enough signability homework to have some confidence that they could sign their 11th round pick. If they can sign him it raises this draft for me a lot because it’s another guy in the top 20 prospect discussion.

Agreed. I think we'd be safe in projecting that Frelick, Black and Binelas would all instantly slot into our Top 20 prospects right away. Riggio I would have to figure would be the 4th guy who would be really close to that 20 spot. Would add some quality depth too to our system, which still badly needs it. And give us a bit of wiggle room if we need to trade a couple of our Top 20 guys in the next few weeks around the trade deadline.
