2021-07-11: Reds (Castillo) at Brewers (Woodruff) [Brewers lose, 3-1 -- Crew hits a speed bump heading into the All Star Break]

Eye Black
Define “slam” please. I see a foot slightly twist and reorient to maintain control of the bag. It never fully lifted off the bag as far as the evidence shows

So his foot has to reorient to maintain control of the base but you guys are also complaining about Freeman blocking the base with his foot, in which case when he reorients his foot wouldn't be on the base.

I can't get a great view right now because I don't have a way to slow the video down but if his foot is blocking the base and he's trying to get his foot reoriented, it stands to reason that his foot would have to be off the base in this position to get it back on the base which is why you see his foot slam down to get back on the base.

"Stands to reason" is not among the criteria used to judge replays. Still haven't seen definitive proof.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Another ridiculous in-game thread where posters love to act like they're MLB umpires and tell posters that "from their view" yadda, yadda, yadda.

It was a stupid call; just like it's been a weekend of stupid and bad calls. If you don't think so and you think it makes a less reactionary Brewer fan... congrats?! i don't get what you gain from it. It reminds me of the Milwaukee bartender who I argued with that took the position Mike Trout wasn't a great player. If you want to take a contrarian position, that's on your, just don't be a dick about it.

[sarcasm]Obviously, as his new teammates are trying to show him, if Trout was truly a great player he'd pitch his team into the playoffs, not just be a perennial MVP and the most complete center fielder since Willie Mays. That's just not good enough to win, like, you know a Derek Jeter who always did what it took to win the game[/sarcasm]

Right, the dicks are the ones who say it wasn't a bad call, not the people questioning people's fandom because they don't think it was a bad call.

It's everything about your "I'm right and there's clear proof" to all your posts, despite the fact that it's just your opinion, no matter how silly it is.

My goodness, so trwi7 is of the mindset that the out call was correct. Not a terrible take honestly. Disagree all you want. Questioning fandom and how people can and should react and think and interpret plays? Get out of here. Also probably time to let that call go IMO

After messing around with it frame by frame, this is the closest I could come to a "definitive" view of his foot being off the bag, and it's not 100% definitive. His foot MIGHT be off the bag, it might not be. But it's not defining, IMO.

It’s also true that we never actually touch anything, so with that in mind I guess he was technically out (although same goes for every base runner in history then).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

So far, there isn’t one person who agreed with you

"In a Universe, where we never actually touch anything, how CAN a runner actually be on the bag?!?"

If you’re interested in all the other awful calls happening around the MLB, follow @umpjob on Twitter. There are some dandies.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Not the ideal start. I guess at least it didn’t leave the ball park.

According to the MLB policies, he clearly should have been ruled safe due to lack of conclusive evidence. MLB seems to rule against the Brewers every game. Clear wrong calls aren’t overturned in our favor. Calls our way with no clear evidence are routinely overturned. I don’t get it

Well this debate has really taken over the in game thread. Quick thoughts

1. The call was incredibly close. Doesn't seem definitive to me but it is what it is.

2. People are not just frustrated with some posters for saying he was out. It is because said person implied they were objective while others were not. Said it was clear cut where it was not. The tone frustrated some people.

3. Calling out people's fandom because they think the play should have been overturned is silly.

4. We are having a rough series and fans are frustrated and it is boiling over to the in game thread. This isn't the only place. The whole stadium sounded frustrated last night

Catch the damn baseball. I know those aren’t easy but too many from Garcia. Too many.

I don’t care about wrong calls. That happens and it’s part of the human part of the game. The terrible use of replay is my frustration. Why is there a different standard for us and our opponents EVERY game?
