The Mudcats get us started today, with Game 1 of a doubleheader. Ashton McGee has quietly put together an 8-game hitting streak and is an On-Base machine (.420 season OBP leads team and is 5th in the league):

LG Castillo’s hitting streak is up to 13 games, as he and the Timber Rattlers strive to bounce back from yesterday’s defeat:

Box: Gwinnett (Braves) 8, Nashville 4

Pre-Game Media Notes

Sounds Fall in Gwinnett as Series Evens

Westbrook’s On-Base Streak Continues Despite Loss

It wasn't Chad Sobotka's night, but the 8th inning offense made the final score reasonable. Sobotka lost his 40-man spot earlier this season, and RHP Patrick Weigel's efforts with the Crew and the Sounds have kind of left the Orlando Arcia trade as "eh" all around.

There are three Stripers highlights via their media feed if you are interested. And as always with Gwinnett references, that's "Stripers", not "strippers", folks. C'mon, it's a Sunday morning. :rolleyes

Box: ACL Brewers Gold 9, ACL Brewers Blue 6, scheduled for seven innings

Blue led 5-0 heading to the bottom of the 4th...

For the winning Gold squad:

All the starting lineup reached base at least once, with the 4-thru-8 spots particularly productive, all reaching twice.

Can we call Jesus Chirinos up for 1B??? Ha

No kidding. The 19-year-old (20 later this month) 1B/DH (no catcher yet in '21) cracked three HR's in three games with the Blue team, got "traded" to Gold, and homered here in his 2nd game with the Navy club.

On the mound, 19-year-old RHP Andy Garcia (started in his pro debut), 18-year-old RHP Jeison Pena (pro debut), 18-year-old LHP Fraudy Maldonado (a former Mets farmhand, but never pitched for them, pro debut here), soon-to-be 19-year-old RHP Ramon Carrasco (stateside debut) and soon-to-be 21-year-old LHP Pablo Garabitos saw action. Garabitos, drafted in Round 25 in 2018 out of a Folida high school, converted to pitcher in 2019.

Garcia, Pena and Maldonado are from the Dominican Republic, Carrasco from Mexico.

And for "Blue":

Catcher Jeferson Quero finally made his debut and had a couple of hits including a HR.

18-year-old Venezuelan SS Jose Caballero reached base all three times up. CF Terence Doston was on base thrice without recording a hit.

Stateside debut for 19-year-old Venezuelan C/LF Nader Garcia, just his 5th pro game overall. He grounded out as a pinch-hitter.

It was a rough pro debut for 19-year-old Dominican RHP Edrian Robinson. Listed at 6'5", 170, Robinson inherited a baserunner at 1st with two outs in the 6th. WP - double - BB - WP - BB - WP - BB - WP - BB. Get 'em next time, young man.

Hey, it was under 100 degrees at game time (99)!

Really nice to see "Baby Brewer" box scores again.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
