I’m pretty certain it’s not a rule that you have to round to the right or stay in foul territory. You can come back to first in fair territory as long as you didn’t make an attempt to go to 2nd. Not even a flinch.

I've seen plenty of guys finish in fair territory on that play. The rule is showing intent to go to the next base, not a jab step and a shoulder shrug. It's a judgement call and it was a bad one.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

That was the most obvious at bat ever. Hiura couldn't catch up to two 96 mph fastballs so Garrett throws him another one, he barely gets a piece of it and Hiura knows he can't hit high fastballs so he gears up for another one while Garrett throws a slider in the dirt. Game over.

Losing this game will suck, and suck hard.

Really need to take tomorrow's if we don't come back in this one. Would be a big bummer to let the Reds cut into a big chunk of our lead on our field heading into the break.

Don't forget we play them the first three after the break.

What downside would there be to hiring a new hitting coach. Things certainly can't get any worse for this offense.

Coaches coach, hitters hit. What difference does it make? You think a new coach is going to whisper some different words in the ears of Yelich and Hiura and they’ll start to rake?

The team has hit fine ever since acquiring Adames overall. Adames has greatly improved, so has Urias.

I don't think a new hitting coach mid-season is going to get veterans like Yelich and JBJ to suddenly figure it out.

Keston’s last 28 days: .265/.373/.531/.903

Bump.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

FWIW, both Uecker and Levering said the Yelich play was a bad call, and pretty convincingly. Haudricourt tweeted it was a bad call and called the umpiring this series a crapshow. These are guys that are paid to be objective.

Had to get in a quick workout but to throw in my two cents on the call to Castellanos, I would say that is called a ball 75% of the time in the game today. Nothing to get worked up over.

I also truly feel that the Reds are the better team. They certainly need some bullpen help but if they can improve there and get back Sims and Antone, I see it going their way. Their starting pitching is nearly as good as ours so long as Gray is fine and I suspect he is. Definitely better offensively.

I don't know if things would improve but I see no downside whatsoever. Haines is flat out not good at his job.
