2021-07-10: Reds (Gutiérrez) at Brewers (Peralta) [Brewers lose, 4-3 -- Ump Show Strikes Again]

Eye Black
Brewers have been outplayed each game of this series really…. A win tomorrow is great for morale, especially with three more in Cincy.

I don't think they've been all that outplayed. The games have been close.

Stearns please pick up the phone man. The corners are a mess. Center and LEFT are a mess. We need to make something happen man. the bench is embarrassing. The division is there for the taking.

1) Wong back Thursday puts Peterson at 1b or the bench. Solves multiple criticisms of yours

2) Cain back around the 20th solidifies CF and puts Bradley on bench

3) Vogelbach back around Aug 1 improves the offense at 1b/ph/dh

4) Topa hopefully back in August strengthens the pen

5) Shaw back in mid-August strengthens 1b/3b/ph/DH

Close yes. But which team had the nerve and skill at the plate when it counted?

Wong back for how long?? Cain back for how long?? Topa who knows?? Shaw makes us better I guess but he was hitting 200 when last seen. None of these moves says hey David don't take any calls. we good.

I think that is overstating it. It was one pitch tonight. If Narvaez eats one more biscuit in the pregame meal things might be different. If they hold up Narvaez things might be different. If that stupid Yelich call doesn't happen things might be different. Miley was just good the other night but in game one the Brewers had the nerve and skill.

I don't think you can have Shaw, Vogey and Tellez on the same roster though.

So far the Crew has been outplayed, coached, pitched....everything. Freddie hung a curve that most players will hit out, Counsel and Yelly lost their cool on a crappy umpire crew that has short fuses. The bottom of the line-up is crap. Can't keep trading pitchers for crappy players. LoCane???????? who knows. He opted out of last year and has missed most of this season. How effective will he be?

Brewers are 5-7 against the Reds, and 1-5 in the last six.

I have a hard time seeing that continue. Brewers will be able to go Woodruff, Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta in the next 4. If I had to bet, seems like a 5-game lead is most likely after that Cincy series just given baseball. But I'd say it's more likely the Brewers take 3 or 4 here than the other way around.

Bottom line for me: This division should be close roster-wise. I'd even say the Cubs and Cards have underperformed. Brewers have overperformed, probably the Reds too by a hair. I REALLY want tomorrow's game, but it's still a long 71 games here. I expect the division will stay more within range of 3 or 5 than the 7 or 8 we juiced it up to after doing exactly what we should against the soft part of the schedule.

Wong being back will help but he's been so injury prone this season that I'm not sure he can be counted on.

Is Cain really that much better than Bradley at this point. Taylor should be the starting center fielder but with almost 30 million commited to the others he will probably not get a chance.

Vogelbach does little to help this offense.

Are we really counting on Topa?

Shaw looks like just one more weak bat in a lineup full of them.

Keston’s last 28 days: .265/.373/.531/.903

Bump.[/quote

Last 7 games 4 for 20 with 12ks and one of those hits was a gift double..

Same refrain.... Goes down and hits. Comes back up hits for a week then goes right back in the tank.

The Brewers could have Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver, and Nolan Ryan pitching against the Reds and it won’t help them win as long as the offense is helpless against Miley, Gutierrez, and Castillo. The offense is in another one of those stretches that is going to make it a struggle to win. And now that Hader has rediscovered his gopher ball, a small lead late in the game is not safe.

Winning 5 of 6 on the road against the team ahead of them has to have the Reds feeling pretty good about their position.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Teams that give 10 ABs a game to players hitting under .200 shouldn’t make the playoffs, if this trend continues much longer the Reds probably win this division especially since their ace pitcher and two top relievers, and two regular position players are all injured

It's great and all to have Woody, Burnes and Peralta going in the next 4 but who's going to hit? We'll have to win every game 1-0 or 2-1.

This umpiring crew has to be worst in baseball. Both dugouts have been unhappy for 3 days. Poor Freddy got screwed because he couldn't throw 4 strikes to Suarez. The call on Yelich was ridiculous. I don't recall a runner getting tagged near first in a situation like that before. Yeli was not attempting to go to 2nd. He was just standing there and then when he turned around - towards the dugout no less - to return to 1st India tags him? Normally I don't b*tch about officiating but these clowns have no business calling a MLB game.

Watch the replay, Yelich made a move, though extremly small, and tried to correct it. He saw the ball get past the 1B, and like 99.9999% of humans made the slightest move towards 2B.

If he had run back to 1B he would have been ok.

Problem is, that almost never gets called, so he probably figured he was fine.

I don't know how anyone can look at that and say he didn't have the slightest thought of going to 2B, because he did, and you can see it in his movement.
