Gallardo is Better Than Bush/Vargas.

iluvlamp

No one started it, so I did. He has better pitches than both of them. Seems he has better poise. He can throw at least 3 different pitches for strikes on a 2 strike count. Plus, he just rules. The LOOK test says keep him in the rotation. Of course, I am only lamp..*

*it's the top of the 6th and have no control over what he does after this post. lamp is not responsible.

This is different than the other 20 threads this has been discussed this year how? It's one game, lets not get carried away.

Well, it's specific to tonights game because we actually saw Yo go against big league hitting. It opens debate about what should be done in light of said performance. Why the hate 07? It's a good night.

Well bud, because the same people are going to make the same arguements we've all read 1000 times already. I didn't mean for that post to come off as sarcastic as it did, for that I apologize. My DN is really ticking me off as I cannot watch the game.

There's gotta be a thread on this. Where's TC when you need him?

I don't see this thread as specific to tonight's game. If it were, it wouldn't belong here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Sam, come on. I never said that. I thought it was a mistake to keep him in after that inning and 93 pitches. My point is he looks better the either of the current 4/5. Yes, the Brewers win with Vargas, but is he a better option that YoGa? Maybe. YoGa over Bush? Probably.

Guys, what do we realistically do with him once Capuano comes back? Does the consensus say keep Bushie in there and see how he progresses and stick Yo in the 'pen? Or do we give Yo a shot to keep his spot in the rotation? It really is a tough call.

I absolutely drool at the prospect of Villanueva and Gallardo in dual "Villanueva" roles in the bullpen.

Man Casey, that's a good point. I shouldn't discount that YoGa wouldn't be good out of the pen. I just see no reason from him to be in that role. The expectation for Villy wasn't as high as YO. Maybe I am falling victim to Yo-headedness, but Yo looks like a starter.

Keep him in the pen to keep his IP down. Around the all star break, deal Vargas for a decent RH corner outfielder if necessary. Yo should then have enough miles left on the arm to get us through the post season.

Ready? Break!

Kruk on BT just gave Gallardo a lot of praise. He highlighted his 'stuff' and gave him props for his poise and having the guts to throw breaking ball strikes to Bonds. He said he was going to be a good pitcher and likened him to "a poor man's Ben Sheets." Overall, nice comments.

Does that jinx him that it came out of Krukie's mouth?

Yo's innings are certainly an underlying factor, but let's try to keep flat-out back and forth debate on that issue in the Gallardo and limiting his innings thread.

As Russ says, the Brewers might make a trade that opens up a spot, but I really like the depth.

I guess the only thing I wouldn't do is put both Vargas and Gallardo in the rotation at the same time. As of now, neither seems as likely to go as deep into games as the other guys currently in the rotation.

I could see Gallardo replacing Vargas in our rotation and it wouldn't bother me as long as they were very careful with his usage. Replacing Bush would rub me the wrong way since he's probably been the 2nd or 3rd best starter on the team this season.

I would like to see this happen as well. I'd imagine that Vargas' trade value is as high right now as it's probably ever going to be. There are probably lots of teams that would like to get their hands on a guys who is 5-1 with an ERA under 4. Those numbers don't at all reflect his true abilities, but there are sure to be some GM's that will be very impressed by them.

I know some GMs seem really stupid with some decisions that are made. And I agree with the point that Vargas has some trade value at this point, very possible more than he will ever have. But I am not sure that GMs only look at this year's stats when evaluating players. I believe that there are also scouts that would help him evaluate the players' true abilities and potential. Maybe they can get good return if they decide to trade Vargas. Most likely they'll get someone who also has decent numbers, but also has the same question marks.
