2021-07-01: Brewers (Burnes) at Pirates (Crowe) [Brewers win, 7-2 -- Burnes allows 1 run over 7.1 IP before exiting with minor injury; JBJ with incredible deke play; Winning streak at 9]

Eye Black

They certainly have been inconsistent and disappointing for long stretches, but I also think the offense isn't coming out of nowhere. These guys have a history of being for the most part above average offensive players. It's great to see them finally gelling for a stretch here!

Legitimately convinced myself for about an hour after Burnes left that he was headed for TJ and would miss most of 2022. :embarrassed

Never have I been more relieved to hear about a mild knee injury.

I am so glad to see the Brewers win the first game of this series.

Anyone who follows the Brewers closely can recall series in Pittsburgh where the Brewers come in riding high and end up watching the Bucs pull off a humiliating sweep. That happened in both 2017 and 2018.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

That 2018 sweep was 5 games as well. And a couple weeks later the Pirates traded for Chris Archer.

So odd that a 5-game sweep was actually devastating for the Pirates. Absolutely gutted their farm to chase a pipe-dream playoff chance.

If Counsell plans to stay with the 6 man rotation through the All Star break, Burnes would only be getting one more start before the ASB, and that would be next Wednesday, possibly against deGrom.

If there is any question about Burnes, they could skip that start, or maybe tweak the rotation to pitch Houser or a few others on 5 days and fit Burnes in for a start against the Reds, who didn’t see either him or Woodfruff in the 3 series against them.
