In all seriousness, it’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Burnitz and company wore the Sweep Suits and finished the season 30-60 in their last 90 games after a 38-34 start. Man I’m getting old.

Willy Adames: "We knew since the first inning that we were going to come back. We had that feeling."

Jace Peterson: "It was a weird feeling. When we got back to the dugout a few people were saying it. You could tell we were going to win the game."

I wonder if they ever get asked that after they go down 7 - 0 and lose.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I wonder how many people bailed on the game after half an inning today…

I didn’t make it past 5-0 but to be fair I was working, I did tune into this thread at some point so knew they were coming back. Wow 15 runs with yelich going 0-5. Fun times let’s keep it going.

Late June three game sweep of the Cubs before heading to Pittsburgh for a four game set. Time to break out the “Sweep Suits?”

If they do that the only thing that's going to keep them getting swept in five games again is that there is no game five this time.

I was going to post the same thing. You never hear anyone say that after they lose, which happens more than not.

You’re confusing the “Sweep Suit” series (the 4-gamer in 2001) with the 5-gamer right before the all-star break in 2018. The team recovered pretty well in 2018. The 2001 team not so much…

The fact that we’re still traumatized by the sweep suits speaks volumes to our collective agony as a fanbase. Just the thought of Jeromy Burnitz in that zoot suit makes me sick.

I'm not confusing it. I'm sure they would recover nicely if a sweep were to happen. I'm just talking about the Pirates series alone.

The Gametracker on ESPN had the Cubs odds of winning at 95.4% in the first when they were up 7-0. Basically, saying that 19 times out of 20 they'll going to win in that scenario. honestly, that seems kind of *low*, IMO. If you blow a 7 run first inning lead even one out of 20 times, something went horribly wrong (and today, for the Cubs, it did)

You are failing to account for the Jake Arrieta factor………:)

Yikes, I had pushed the 5 gamer (and IIRC, a really brutal series vs. a terrible Marlins team either right before or after that series) out of my mind, largely because of how the season turned out. But I believe that one was right before the break, and that team was absolutely gassed.

But yeah, that's at least two Brewer teams that had horrible Pittsburgh series in July, and I feel like there's another one like that too.

Interesting going forward when Wong is healthy. Peterson deserves to play, Urias deserves to play, Hiura has been better, JBJ has started to swing the bat in this series, who goes to the bench?

I didn't realize it was a day game and so didn't turn on my radio. But to be fair, even if I had remembered, I probably wouldn't have listened past 4-0 in the 1st. But heck, that's how I became a Brewers fan in the first place, listening to all those games during the putrid years. It wasn't so much for the baseball but because Uecker would start in telling stories since he knew nobody cared about the game anymore. "So I started off doing this, oh and by the way the Brewers just hit into a double play, so anyway here's how it happened...."

You're right, from 1903-2020 there were 119 games where it was 7-0 into the bottom of the first and visiting team won 116, or 97.5%, which is 39 out of 40.

I sorta get the idea of keeping starters well rested and giving Ashby a shot at getting some innings for a bullpen game....but not against your main division rival and definitely not starting that game. Why can't they have started a different long reliever and then brought Ashby in midgame, instead of basically turning the game into a forfeit before the Brewers got up to bat?

Yesterday morning my hubby went on a 35 mile bike ride so after the first inning he took a nap. He was shocked when he woke to find us up by a run! :laughing :laughing
