2021-06-28: Cubs (Hendricks) at Brewers (Peralta) [Brewers win, 14-4 -- Crew breaks tie with 10-run 8th inning]

Eye Black
Craig has never really had a good handle on our pitching staff. Sometimes I think he consults a ouija board on lineups and pitching selections.

You’re kidding, right? :laughing

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It's June and I trust Craig/the Brewers braintrust here. If it was August or September, absolutely start Burnes. No reason to alter your season-long pitching plan to keep your guys healthy for a pre-All-Star break series. Who's to say that the Brewers can't win a bullpen game against a washed up Jake Arrieta anyways?

Sure, but I like our chances with Burns a whole lot more. Is pitching him on 4 days rest this one time going to mean that he's useless in September? If so, then we definitely should use him now while we can. This is the team that is closest to us in the standings. This is a key rival for the division championship. We only face them 7 more times after this series. This is a chance to put some distance between us and them. The reason you give your pitchers extra rest are for series like this.

Then again.......ugh.

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

One of the reasons why I just can't see Peralta being more than a #3 type starter. He gets way to amped up for a big start and everything is all over the place and it takes him 1-3 innings to settle in and by that time he is already at a high pitch count. Peralta to me I have no confidence knowing if he will have a good start or a bad start and I would be leery on starting him late in the year.

“We talked about it both ways, but this is the way we’ve rolled with it so far. It’s worked so far,” Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns said. “I would imagine we get to a point in the season where we ask a little bit more from our starters, but we’re not at that point right now.

“This is a fun series, it’s a big series. It’s still the last three days of June. We’ve got half a season left to go and we’re still very much in a long game here. That’s how we have to look at it.”

Just remember to link us back to this after the dominant playoff start. ;)

No Peralta is always iffy in starting his games you never know if you are going to get good Peralta or bad Peralta. A lot of the times he gets way to amped up and excited for the game and he is all over the place please see todays game as an example. You can't really do that later in the season where there is more pressure on the team to perform and close out the season.

Sometimes it takes Peralta a few innings to finally settle down but by that time he is at 50 pitches and going for a 4-5 inning start.

Wasn't his major league debut one of the best starts of his career? I would guess he felt more pressure than any other time in his career.

I really doubt he's out there shaking just because the Cubs are the opponent. He's pitched well in plenty of big starts. I think you're making too much out of him not having command early in an outing, it happens.

He had like a 2 ERA coming into today, he is a little bit better than a 3. Peralta is fine.
