Even with a comeback win today, Alabama has no business being in the top 4 next week....and that was even with OSU losing today. Their 2021 resume is a joke.

Sad thing is even if they lose today, if they beat Georgia they'll still coast into the playoff with 2 losses. And Georgia will still get a spot.

And thats all because Bama stayed in the top 5 after their 1st loss, when they should have dropped closer to #9 or 10 at the time.

I'd disagree Bama coasts into the playoffs if they beat UGA next Saturday with 2 L's....cincy, a 1 loss Michigan team, and honestly notre dame would be more deserving IMO to go in with Georgia. Get where you are coming from though.

Auburn had a chance to salt the game away, but they didn’t. Running back goes out of bounds short of a first down, saving an Alabama timeout and 40 seconds on the clock. Results in giving up a 98-yard game-tying TD. Overtime to settle the Iron Bowl.

Okay, I couldn't figure out how they ran only 7 secs off the clock on a 10yard run without a timeout used. RB lost that game for Auburn...if they go on to lose.

Add Alabama running a 12 play drive 97yards with no timeouts in 1:11 secs.

Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for... USC, apparently?

He probably doesn’t want anything to do with SEC defenses.

I wonder if he’ll retain Graham Harrell as OC? They have some history. They are both Texas Tech alums and Riley was the WR coach when Harrell was the starting QB.

What is USC going to pay him? I was under the impression that the Pac 12 was falling behind in TV money and the overall revenue game. Riley has been rumored to LSU, although I think the administration there would be crazy not to go get Aranda back. LSU was paying Orgeron 9 million. Riley was making 7.6 million at Oklahoma. USC was paying Helton 4.8 million.

Pretty disappointing that the media has hyped this guy and then he bails for another B-league when having a chance to go play with the big boys. Now if USC pays him 10+ million a year, then that's a different story.

How long before Riley joins the NFL as a head coach? It may not matter all to much.

I think that's the heart of my question- why make a jump to a USC program with the intent to rebuild rather than waiting a month to see what NFL offers come in, since he's been linked there the past 2 offseasons? Is USC really a better job than sticking at OU through the bowl?

USC just seems like the job a bounced NFL HC (Cough..... Urban Meyer.....) takes after they get canned this January, not a top coaching candidate already at a name program.

I think the timing is because of the early signing period for recruiting. If you wait it out at OU, you sign the recruits for a team you're not going to coach and there is no direction at USC to sign that class with an unknown HC. If you get to USC now, you have all the hype in the media and can make a push to bring over some of your top recruits with you to bolster the current recruits and likely improve that quickly. I would guess Nelson (QB) follows him and probably some RB and WRs too. I can see the appeal of the USC job and getting an established college coach should do wonders for returning them to a top power quickly (unfortunately).

I get all of that and it's completely valid, but why the need to leave OU at all? They're not jumping to the SEC until mid-decade. Seems like if the goal is 'NFL or CFB success', doesn't even one additional year at OU make more sense than jumping to USC if the NFL job you want doesn't come calling?

More guaranteed money? LA lifestyle? Easier path to the CFP come 2025? It feels like a lateral move, but I can see why some might find USC more appealing.

I would say it depends on the factors of the person. If the goal is to head to the NFL, then yes it probably makes more sense to stay at OU until you jump this year or next depending on what potential jobs interest you. If the plan is to not go to the NFL in the next 3-5 years, then taking over and restoring a USC program has a lot of appeal: better weather, better recruiting, live that Hollywood lifestyle if that is what you want. We also don't know what matters to Riley. It's entirely possible he just doesn't care for Norman or Oklahoma. Maybe he wants to recruit closer to home and travel less. Maybe he is setting himself up to take over as the host of Jeopardy. If it was my choice, easy one to head to USC.

The Oklahoma fans on my Twitter feed are freaking out. With the head coach being king in college football, plus the new transfer rules, it's pretty much over for Oklahoma. Not to say they won't find a good coach and continue to be a decent football program, but I can't imagine we'll be seeing them in the CFP anytime soon.

I agree with madbad, much of this likely has to do with expectations. And USC is only a downgrade in an SEC-centric view of the world. I do also wonder if the new player endorsement rules are part of this. Lots more money to be made as a player in LA compared with Norman.

their program has been ransacked in 24 hrs. most top recruits decommited and rattler is entering the transfer pool. game over. I hate in college sports if you lose a coach you basically have to start over.

Thus why many don't want UW to fire a coach who has won 73% of his games.

Maybe Riley saw that Okie state's program has surpassed OU and got out before taking upcoming lumps over the next 2-3 seasons before the luster has worn off his status as everyone's "it girl" as the Sooners crept closer to the SEC and further away from CFP autobid status in the big 12.

Gundy has been at Oklahoma State since 2005. It's not like that's an up and coming program that just suddenly surpassed OU. In 2011, OSU was 11-1 as well.

Gundy's career winning %? 68.5%.
