It was only one appearance, but Kirk Cousins’ cousin Cousins appears to have some legitimate strikeout stuff. If he could prove to be an adequate replacement for Feyereisen that could along way towards improving the dependability of the bullpen.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

I realize it was one game, but it always frustrates me when guys like Godley are getting innings instead of guys like this. Sometimes it's nice to give other guys a look...especially the last arm or 2 in the pen.

Cousins was pitching in Indy ball in 2019 & hadn't appeared above A ball prior to this year.

He threw 8.2 IP in AA, then 9 IP in AAA before getting the call. He's already been about as fast tracked as it gets.

Godley has thrown all of 3.1 IP this year, Cousins is already over halfway there & from the look of things last night should easily surpass that total over the remainder of the season.

I know there is some logic to it, but I'm gonna be pretty upset if they option Cousins to Nashville today.

I can't imagine they would do that with how brutal the back end of the bullpen is. Miler on the other hand..

Someone will probably rotate down today just because too many of them are done for a couple days after going 2 innings. But I'd think Cousins showed enough promise last night to avoid it. Unfortunately, I did not see him pitch last night, so I'm mining data from savant this morning:

Sinker - 97 MPH!, Drops 20 in, moves left 16in

Slider - 85 MPH, drops 37 in, moves right 7 in

Threw one "changeup", but I'm thinking it was a sinker that just didn't get much velocity.

Interesting left-right pitching profile with his two main pitches moving opposite directions. Pitches out of the zone a lot, which teams might learn to exploit. With heavy downward motion on both pitches, if contact is made, he should tend to have a lot of ground balls (which is what the one ball in play last night did).

Small sample, but certainly an arm talent to watch.

Cousins benefitted a lot by being able to pitch for the Chicago Dogs last year when most of the minor leagues didn't play. The American Association is full of experienced minor leaguers and the level of talent in that league is between High A and AA.

Godley had at least a few similarities to Pomeranz, it wasn’t crazy to give him a chance to revive his career in the bullpen

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Eh, I will just disagree with that.

Again, I realize Godley has thrown very few innings with the Brewers too, but he didnt look great in his first start either. I also realize the path Cousins has taken.

I just wanted to bump this up, because Cousins has now gone 17 appearances and 18 innings without surrendering an earned run, to go along with 26 Ks. He may get mostly non-high-leverage work, but even so, this is going practically unnoticed.
