2021-06-20: Brewers (Lauer) at Rockies (González) [Brewers win, 7-6 -- Crew blows 6-run lead, but Vogelbach provides a 9th inning go ahead RBI single]

Eye Black
CC moves the 2 hottest batters to the bottom half of the order to fix the lack of production from 5-8.

WOAH SOLVDD

I don’t get this batting order. If you have Wong, Adames, and Urias available, why put a slow, bases clogger like Vogelbach second? I would think something like Urias second with Vogelbach seventh would make more sense.

With nobody resting, I would go: Wong, Urias, Yelich, Garcia, Narvaez, Adames, Vogelbach, Bradley, Pitcher, or something similar.

Without looking, I'm pretty sure hes had a solid OBP lately and has had good at bats.

But a big part of the point is that I would choose a faster base runner over a slower one if their hitting and OBP are reasonably equal. Urias has been a better hitter, had a better OBP, and is significantly better as a base runner than Vogelbach. I would put him in the 2 spot over Vogelbach, and it wouldn’t be a close decision. It gives you the added benefit of not having 3 left handed hitters in a row.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Two good wins to stop the bleeding of the 5 game skid.

If you had told me on Thursday that the Brewers would go 2-2 in this series, I would have taken it in a second coming off that ugly Reds series.

You shouldn’t be all to nervous. He’s not elite like Hader but he’s been very good this season and has done some great work for Milwaukee.

Still in 1st! Good win!

His FIP was nearing 4 coming into this one. Very good might be a bit of a stretch. I think he is a lot closer to "just a guy" than not. I'm not saying the guy sucks but he should be the fifth or sixth guy, not the second or third.

He’s given up runs in only 5 of his 32 appearances. A hit(s) in 13 of 33. He has only walked 8 batters in over 28 innings. The guy has been nothing but consistent for the Crew.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Two of the five appearances where Boxberger did give up a run came in Calvin Ball extra innings too.

Sure, his FIP (3.73) was higher than his ERA (3.14) entering the game, but over 357 career innings his ERA (3.52) has outperformed his FIP (4.09) by a similar margin, so he might not be due for as much regression as the underlying metrics indicate.

Yeah, let’s give Boxberger credit. He has been so important to this pen…. Often overlooked this year, he has been needed to pitch in a variety of situations. To his credit, his WHIP is under one…. His BB9 are at a career best rate.

Boxberger has been solid the vast majority of the time so far this season, but over the long haul, I'm still a little nervous of how the results will be. Of the current options though he's definitely 3rd best.

With that said, the pen definitely needs a couple upgrades at the back end. Guys like Godley shouldn't be on the roster. If we can add Ashby to the pen and maybe add another option via trade I think we should be in decent shape.
