The Sounds ran out of position players, with Cooper Hummel and Luke Maile exiting early, forcing Bubba Derby to hit in the 9th inning. They’ll get Tim Lopes and Pablo Reyes (both optioned from MLB club) soon, but it’s worth watching whether 1-2 more players need to be added.

Somehow a huge first-inning deficit for a second consecutive night proves to be only a sidenote. In the last two first innings combined, Wisconsin has been outscored 17-0.

Castillo Lifts Mudcats to 5-4 Victory With Clutch Hit

Daniel Castillo gave the Mudcats the late lead with a three-run single with two outs in the eighth

Mudcat pitchers allowed 14 hits, walked four and hit a batter, but managed to limit the damage, Woodpeckers 3-for-19 with RISP.

Three-run SINGLE to take the lead late, that's rare, this team is fun!

For the 4,276 in attendance, that's about as good a game as a fan can ask for. Home team takes the lead late, not a pitchers' duel, but not a wild affair either. A clear 80 degree night, wish I'd been there. Actually have a cousin in Raleigh, haven't visited in about four years.

Lots to review here beyond the game summary.

First of all, this!

There's no clear reason for the Hummel exit in the bottom of the 6th. He had been playing left field.

Luke Maile flied out to center for the 2nd out in the top of the 6th and was replaced.

If you are an MiLB.TV subscriber, go to the 02:22:15 hour/minute mark here. You'll see that after he flies out, Maile is walking gingerly as headed back to the dugout.

If Maile is hurt, the only other player besides Christian Kelley with catching experience (very limited in recent years) is, Cooper Hummel, who of course, exited as well.

Biloxi has only two catchers on its roster (Payton Henry and Brent Diaz), so you can bet @BrewersPD is in scramble mode this morning.
