2021-06-10: Brewers (Peralta) at Reds (Castillo) [Brewers win, 7-2 -- Offense breaks out following rain delay]

Eye Black

A sweet series win.

The Brewers did almost nothing against the Reds starters, but took advantage of their Achilles heel, and the pitching did a good job of cooling down the Reds bats after their sweep of the Cardinals.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I think that was reds promotional staff that gave him the ball

Yup, it was...

I just thought it was funny when he was yelling at the guy who got the original ball. It was comical.

How do you know they were Reds staff? They looked like they were 14. And the girl behind him had a skimpy shirt on. I guess I’m out of touch with the young-ins.

Nope… I wish he wasn’t on the team. But he put the bat on the ball in that at-bat (instead of striking out like most players do these days) and it resulted in two runs.

Jace strikes out way too much as well but has the uncanny ability to walk at over a 20% rate as a Brewer and in a small sample has been much more productive as a Brewer than his career average. Hopefully the Brewers can let it ride for a while and by the time he reverts to career norms hopefully they found somebody better and he can be DFA.

We never seem to be playing "okay." Either we're playing so well that we feel like we're going to win every game or we stink so bad that you wonder if we'll ever win again. Is this a Brewers thing, or just a baseball thing?

This Reds outfield may have the worst range I have ever seen in MLB. All well below average for their position.

Feels like the Reds have made gobs of acquisitions over the past couple of years to not be terribly good at much, and really horrible in some areas.

I was thinking this while watching today. There were a few balls that were just pathetic efforts to make plays on.

And the GM who made all those moves was a family friend of the owner and walked away from baseball all together after last year. We can all be thankful the Brewers have a competent baseball side and a mostly non-meddling owner

Regardless of the outcome here, do you agree with the decision to walk Yelich to face Avi right now? Crazy that right now I'm not sure its the obvious choice

That move surprised me. Avi is hot bat right now but perhaps the Reds coaches felt Yeli could start hitting any time now?

The funny thing is that plenty of baseball fans lauded the Reds for their "all in" approach. In reality, they have some nice pieces, but the whole continues to be substantially lesser than the sum of the parts. It has been a dumpster fire approach to player acquisition.
