travis shaw claimed by red sox

djoctagone
Vogelbach, Shaw, and Rowdy are all pretty redundant. Rowdy might be the best bat, but Shaw has a little more versatility on defense.

But we'll never know until he actually gets some consistant playing time...

Yep. Play him and see if he’s your guy. He’s looked solid in limited time.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

depending on when the rehab assignment starts, the club could stretch out his minor league assignment the full 20 days, which means a return to the roster (or release) by mid-august.

the brewers have off days 16 and 23 august until rosters expand to 28. do those off days afford the club to carry just 12 or 13 pitchers instead of the 14 they are currently carrying?

i think many would agree that travis shaw would benefit from some time with nashville to find his stroke again.

I'm guessing they're riding out his 20 days and then will probably DFA him. Keep him around the 20 days just in the off-case/worst case that one of our CI guys gets injured, and then let him go or even DFA him and see if he'll accept an assignment if he clears waivers. Might not be a bad idea to keep him around just in case (if he would even want to)

Peter Gammons tweeted around 5pm that Shaw had been placed on outright waivers. None of the beat reporters seem to know about it. Anyone else seen anything? Does he have inside info or is Gammons going senile?

His Twitter bio and picture no longer have any reference to the Brewers (as they previously did) so I am guessing there is some fire to this smoke. Guess we will find out soon.

With the garbage the Cubs are trotting out, Chicago would seem a likely landing spot for the rest of the season. There's rebuilding and there's fielding unwatchable garbage. The Cubs are already getting pushback.

Cubs major issue is starting pitching and relief pitching. Not sure adding Shaw would make them any better. They'll be looking for pitching and outfielders this winter. Hoerner and Madrigal will be back to fortify their middle infield.

Cubs aren’t looking to get better for the rest of this season

Which is obviously the right call for the franchise, but the 'became Cubs fans circa 2015' part of their fanbase won't get it. I do admire the Cubs' FO for seemingly doing the 'right thing' with their tear down in spite of what must be brutal pressure to try and maintain a respectable team.

good for him, gets to play on another playoff contender. Not too much a surprise he was claimed since this is pretty much the only way teams can pick up major league caliber players with the trade deadline so early.
