The good news is the Brewers active roster has a 1.030 OPS against Sonny Gray over career 110 plate appearances.

The bad news is Adrian Houser has struggled a bit against these Reds hitters (.862 OPS), led by Jesse Winker who has 5 home runs in 13 at bats against Houser.

Lastly, today marks the Brewers 60th game of the season which is the same number of games played in the entire 2020 regular season.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

The Brewers have a better bullpen and bench. Position wise, what team has a better lineup? In this series the rotations are a wash.

C- Barnhart vs. Narvaez= Narvaez

1B- Stephenson vs. Vogelbach= Even

2B- India vs. Urias= Urias

3B- Suarez vs. Shaw= Suarez

SS- Farmer vs. Adames= Adames

LF- Winkler vs. Yelich= Even

CF- Naquin/Heineman vs. Taylor/JBB= Naquin/Heineman

RF- Castellanos vs. Garcia= Castellanos

The Reds offense is pretty good. They’ve scored about 50 more runs than we have in a couple less games and Winker and Castellanos are two of the best hitters in baseball right now. Plus no Burnes or Woodruff in this series. The offense is gonna have to show up for sure.

LF- Winkler vs. Yelich= Even

As much as I think Yelich is going to bounce back to form in the near future, right now I would take Winker by a country mile over Yelich. Winker is an mvp candidate while Yelich is currently mediocre at best when healthy.

Reds have the better lineup……don’t think it’s all that close.

Brewers are underdogs tonight and I’m sure they will be tomorrow as well

It is actually closer than you'd think because the Reds have a fair amount of black holes themselves. Farmer, Suarez, and Akiyama all hitting sub 210 and in the lineup today. Maybe the Reds are something like 20% better at hitting overall, but if you include defensive value...our position players are probably about evenly matched with the Reds.

Can we not pitch to winker these first two games? It would seem like we never pitch around anyone, which is fine for the three guys who are almost unhittable in the rotation.

It isn’t close. The Reds have 3 hitters in their starting lineup tonight (Winker, Castellanos, and India) who have been blistering hot the last couple of weeks, and Suarez has found the HR stroke recently even though his average remains low.Plus, Votto is back in the lineup tonight and, unless he’s rusty from his layoff, that’s another dangerous bat in the middle of the order. The Brewers only have a few hitters who have been less frigid than the others and have hit a few HRs.

The Brewers aren’t going to be beating the Reds 2-1 with Hauser and Anderson on the mound, so it’s essential that they get 3-4 runs in the early innings (presumably on HRs), keep pace through the middle innings, and try to win it with the bullpens.

I’ll feel better if and when the Brewers get one win in this series, because the pitching and batting matchups in the first two games are pretty brutal.

Games like that second Tigers game are a definite possibility in the GABP launching pad.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Then they’d have to pitch around Castellanos too and pitch to Votto and Suarez with two men on base.

Agree on that.

Urias better than India is not supported by results either, especially if you look at the last month or so.

Castellanos has multiple holes in his swing and doesn’t play like babe Ruth and Barry bonds super child against the brewers as winker does. give him solo hrs with a lead but you need to give him some free passes to set up double plays, etc.

People complain to much about strike calls. Swing the bat

It wasn’t that bad of a call.

It was a bad call. Players shouldn't be encouraged to swing at pitches that aren't strikes.

Batters shouldn't be forced to try to hit a ball at their shins because an old guy can't see the ball.

Whatever the stupid box on tv said it was a strike. However accurate that is

People complain way to much about strikes and balls. Most of them are damn close. With two strikes swing the bat. Or take your chances of walking back to dugout
