Arizona has a terrible record but actually has some nice players on offense (Marte, Kelly, Escobar, Smith, etc). The problem is obviously their pitching so hopefully we can consistently score some runs over these four games.

Brewers winning 3/4 seems like a necessary thing given how hot the Cubs are. Have to take advantage of the weaker schedule while they can.

While I agree that the Brewers need to beat the teams like that DBacks that they should beat, I don't think what the Cubs are currently doing with more than 100 games to go in the season has any bearing on that.

+1. I really don't care about what the Cubs are doing. The Brewers have handled the Cubs quite well this year.

The Brewers just need to take care of business against the bad teams they play over the next 5 weeks.

3 of 4 is absolutely necessary.

What the cubs are doing DOES have a bearing on what we do from here on out.

I think it's funny when people act like what the Cubs and Cards do early in the season means nothing.

All games matter.

Every single game does in fact have a bearing on the final standings.

We can kid ourselves and think otherwise, but they all count.

Of course they count, but you are kidding yourself if you think that anyone in the Brewers organization believes there is any need whatsoever to keep pace with the Cubs when there is more than 100 games left in the season.

If the Brewers can take care of their own house for the next couple months, then start looking at the standings. Because August is when they start to matter. Not now.

The Brewers need 3 of 4.

If they only get 2 of 4, they might have to win an extra game in the remaining 103 games to keep pace.

1 of 4 and they might be as many as 4.5 games out of the wild card with 103 to play.

If they get swept they probably will have to sweep another series in the next 4 months to catch back up.

Or their competition might lose also and they will be in the same spot they were today at the end of the weekend.

While I'm not super worried about the standings now, I think how they sit around the all star break could determine what happens on the trade front. With that in mind I think having a good June is important because we might be selling if it goes poorly.

Obviously there is a ton of season left. My larger point is if the Cubs are sweeping the Padres and the Brewers are splitting series with the Tigers and splitting or losing series with the Diamondbacks, it will make it that much more difficult to catch the Cubs later in the season when the Brewers are playing tougher teams and needing to go 3/4 or sweep series. Gotta stock Ws when you can.

I guess I'd simply argue that the Brewers gotta stock wins against those lesser teams on the schedule regardless. The Cubs are on a hot streak now. It certainly isn't going to last forever. Not with the pitching they have available.

Seeing Taylor benched for Bradley makes me less interested in this game honestly. I need Counsell to play the best players every night in order to try to win the game at hand. To date there is no reason to see Bradley start again if there are three healthy outfielders.

Bradley is a better defender and he's left handed vs. the righty starter. It's not like Taylor has shown so much that he is a must-start.

Ok, but what I always ask people is who do you want to lose? It's early in the season and there are roughly 13 NL teams that have a chance to make the postseason. A loss by a first place team today may not be a good thing if by the end of the season that team is in 4th place. Even when it's divisional opponents vs other divisions. It could very well come down to us and San Diego for a wild card, the Cubs beating them might be a really good thing.

At least TT is playing above replacement value. JBJ is still under water and costing us $13M. And he's had lots of playing time to get on track

With a guy like JBJ he's trying to trust a vet to regress to the mean. Think how many people were adamant how Garcia should be benched back in April when TT was doing well. Well, that didn't hold up so well. Not saying same will happen here, but that's what CC is going with and of course the lefty righty aspect.

JBJ ready to rake in June *fingers crossed*. His career OPS numbers by month...

March/April -- .610

May -- .712

June -- .810

July -- .702

Aug -- .767

Sept/Oct -- .717

The Cubs losing is always a good thing.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Nobody said he’s a “must start” but in the game after 2 homers and with JBJ having an OPS below 500 he is a “should start.”
