So maybe Hernan Perez isn't off to Olympic qualifying after all...

Actually, turns out while he played Friday for Nashville, he did make it to the qualifying tournament's first game Monday in Port St. Lucie, FL.

Box Score

Venezuela defeats Cuba, 6-5

Perez was a double shy of a cycle.

LF Alexander Palma was 3-for-5, 1B Luis Castro 0-for-5, both on loan from Bilox.

***

In the US 7-1 win over Nicaragua, 2B Logan Forsythe, loaned from Nashville, was 1-for-2.

***

No Brewers connections (how can that be, Doug Melvin and Gord Ash?), but noteworthy in that the Canucks pitched a no-hitter vs. Colombia.

On Saturday, Biloxi infielder Tyler Friis was involved in an awkward collision with the first baseman as he grounded out.

The MiLB archive shows Friis' injury was around his head, which he was holding as he exited after the 3rd inning play. As one might expect, Friis did not play Sunday.

Hopefully OK, he did leave on his own power.

Sounds Power Past Knights for 13th Straight Win

Nashville Drills Three Homers in Series-Opening Win in Charlotte

Eight consecutive scoreless appearances for RHP Luke Barker after he was touched up in two of his first three games.

Outfield depth takes a big hit, hopefully the exits of Corey Ray and Dustin Peterson you just read about lead to short stints away. Derek Fisher (last played on 5/25), Jace Peterson (5/22), Cooper Hummel (only DH'ing since his return) possible options. Tim Lopes certainly isn't a center fielder, but with Tyrone Taylor's call-up, that's who you have to plug in there.

Nice to see Payton Henry back after a brief time away after that foul tip to the shoulder exit over the weekend.

Shuckers pitchers walk seven, and Biloxi batters don't draw a single one of their own.

Tristen Lutz scuffling since his torrid start to the season...
