Shuckers Drop First Game To Blue Wahoos

Francis Strikes Out Season Best 10 in Start

By Garrett Greene

VIDEO via WXXV: An extended highlight package despite the loss. You'll see a nice defensive play by former Brewer farmhand SS Devin Hairston, who already faced the Timber Rattlers with Beloit this season, and has since been promoted to AA. Nice sequence shown of Bowden Francis as well - it's "BO-den", though.

A mystery going back to September 2019 --

"@BrewersPD never did make a formal announcement on the September release of 22-year-old 2019 Midwest League All-Star representative RHP Logan Gillaspie, noted by Baseball America. Gillaspie, a 2018 independent league find, was effective throughout 2019 for the Timber Rattlers. His out-of-the-blue and by-itself release unfortunately can only lead to speculation, which is totally unfair to the player in a vacuum of news/reasoning why. So we'll just leave it at that."

The update is that Gillaspie recently signed with the Orioles - when he debuts, it'll be his first action since that 2019 season.

Box: Carolina 23, Kannapolis (White Sox) 7

As the box score shows, a matchup of two excellent logos. Cannon Ballers fall to 2-17.

The eight-run 8th was vs. a position player, but still!

Yeah, you'll want to read Greg's fine summary for sure...

Mudcats Set Team Record For Runs in 23-7 Victory

Joe Gray Jr. hit a grand slam and Gabe Holt scored five runs in Carolina’s record setting, series opening victory

VIDEO: Been a while since Carolina was home, Voice of the Mudcats Greg Young Jr. reminds us of that opening series

***

AUDIO: Manager Joe Ayrault's Post-Game Interview

Ayrault shares why 1B Ernesto Martinez left early - no worries, pretty sure first mention of "ingrown toenail" in a Link Report, already repaired.

Greg shares the two prominent big league names that Gabe Holt tied in the Mudcat record books during the chat (and the full answer here in non-audio form).

VIDEO TWEETS via @BrewersFarm:

Ernesto Martinez' swing on low pitches is pretty awesome

Joey Wiemer barrel

Here are those two swings with Greg's audio call.

VIDEO TWEETS via the Mudcats:

Joe Gray Jr.'s grand slam with a bit of cinematography as well

Weimer with a blast

Have yourself a bat flip, Daniel Castillo

Felix Valerio's turn

By the way, Valerio is part of our Brewers' trade trivia after Tuesday night's Billy McKinney deal to the Mets for 17-year-old LHP Pedro Quintana.

***

Lost in the shuffle - affiliated debut for RHP Kent Hasler and an impressive four wild pitches in one inning of work for LHP Jackson Gillis.

Oddly enough after the lines some of the guys put up last night, I found myself wondering how slow must they have started this early in the season that there season numbers were still so low.
