The two guys who hit home runs yesterday find the bench today. Urias finding the bench after a walk, double, and homerun in his last two games when it’s a young player struggling. He has reverse splits too. Way to give the kid confidence Counsell.

You’re still banging this drum?

He's making a point, which proves to be true OFTEN!

Wong is such a professional hitter.

I’ve noticed it the last two games, but Doolittle stepped off and faked a throw. I always thought the rule in the past was you could step off and not throw over, or step off and throw over if you start to motion towards throwing the ball. But you couldn’t fake the throw.

Did this rule change or have I always been wrong on this rule? :laughing

A throw can only be faked to second base. It used to be second or third.

I wish Counsell would’ve left Freddy in for one more batter. Boxberger in this situation makes me very nervous.

Yeah, with a HUGE lead, Freddy should have been allowed to finish the inning.

Urias played two games in a row and is 23 years old. He can handle playing a few days in a row.

Also, I’ve always hated the strict platooning, benching guys after a good game, making lineups out in advance, being absolutely strict to off days without performance having a say in it.

How has our strict platooning of all these guys been going? Sounds good in theory, but a lot of players don’t play well without consistent playing time and getting yanked around.

Just take a look at our offense the last number of years and let me know how all these strict platoons have been working out for this offense. Only arguably the worst offense in baseball for two years.

There might be an example of one working, but when the other 80% haven’t worked, the numbers just don’t point to that being an effective strategy.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting that Urias wasn’t in the starting lineup today because he needs rest.

The only relevant decision today is whether to start Shaw or Urias at third against Castillo. In addition to the potential offense, playing Urias at third might not be the best choice in light of his throwing yips.

That’s a fair point. I was also just pointing his age out as a reason as to why he doesn’t need time off because he isn’t an aging veteran. If they think his yips are an issue, maybe he should go to AAA for a couple weeks to work it out. I don’t think putting him on the bench, especially after a productive game, will benefit him.

But not nearly as often as a player with a good game playing the next day.

Thanks! I swear I’ve seen it a couple times this season too where a lefty pitcher steps off and fake throws to first without a balk being called.

I was just looking at the schedule, June is looking like a month of opportunity lots of struggling teams on the schedule.

DET, ARI, CIN, PIT, CIN, COL, ARI, COL then the Cubs. Only 10 road games.

Hopefully they don't choke like they did a few seasons ago during a similar stretch of games.
