Brewers trade Feyereisen, Rasmussen to Rays for SS Willy Adames, RHP Trevor Richards

Interesting looking at transaction log for Feyereisen. Stearns acquired him for Brenny Escanio?sp and bonus slot money. And now used him to get Adames who looks to be a major fixture on this team-positively- at SS through his prime, under team control. This is nearing HR trade already.

I thought this was pretty cool. Chris Rose and Tyler Glasnow interviewed Willy Adames for almost an hour and talked about all sorts of stuff including the trade. You get to know the guy behind the numbers a bit more. Easy guy to root for!

I was just coming to post the same thing. The Adames interview begins at the 12-minute mark, and somehow left me liking Willy Adames even more (which I didn’t realize was even possible)...

Not just “at Night” anymore.

He reminds me a lot like Gomez and Arcia personality wise which means we will probably have some dumb threads about smiling and struggling.

[sarcasm]Must have pouty face and seriousness when in a slump otherwise you can't get out of the slump - some random brewerfan.net poster.[/sarcasm]

JP seems to have been pretty lucky so far…..9 walks in 9 2/3 innings haven’t cost him many runs yet

Could be argued that Richards has pitched better since the trade.

JP with 9 walks and 9 strikeouts since the trade. Richards with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts since the trade. I assumed Richards would be a slight downgrade from JP.

If it’s at least a wash, then it’s basically Rasmussen for Adames. For some reason Rasmussen is in the minors for the Rays and not even being stretched out as a starter. It makes it puzzling why the Rays would make the deal if they didn’t have a need for a reliever. They must think Rasmussen has incredible upside.

In any case, thank you, Rays!

The Brewers acquired the best player in the trade no doubt. But I think it’s safe to say the Rays look at more than the stat sheet when making a deal. The Rays got to major league ready high velocity relief pitchers with 5 years of team control for two players they didn’t need. They’ve positioned themselves for the long haul, maybe it’s fair for both sides

Rasmussen had terrible command. I’m guessing the Rays want him to develop fastball command and a passable 2nd pitch. I think he’ll have a great career, but he really didn’t belong in close games when pitching for us.

Let's also not forget that Adames just couldn't see the ball at Tropicana Field. I think the Rays would be the first to admit that they were trading a player very likely to prove more valuable to any other team than theirs.

Adames still better on the road than he is at home. Only hitting like .216 at AmFam. .750 OPS thanks to some power though.

Feyereisen with his 3rd save so far since the trade, plus a win...

His win was a blown save

Saves don't say much. Hader them all weekend, when really never was in trouble or the game needed to be "saved"

Saves never seem to mean much to fans until the save is blown.........the fact that the game was never in trouble in the 9th is a credit to Hader......we have no idea how it would have gone if some other random pitcher was thrown in there.

thats true, my point is that he came in 3 run leads he night. yes we take him for granted, but your closer should not be blowing 3 run leads on the regular. Its way more stressful when you come in with a 1 run lead or even worse with the tie run on base.

Willy Adames had four hits tonight, all extra base hits (3 doubles and a game winning home run). He has now had three games with the Brewers in which he’s had 4-hits. Only Robin Yount has had more 4-hit games in a season by a Brewers shortstop (Yount had five such games in 1982). The other Brewers shortstops that Willy has now tied for 4-hit games in a season are J.J. Hardy (2008), Pat Listach (1993), Ernie Riles (1985), and Robin Yount (1976).

I have to wonder aloud, the Reds have been in dire need of a shortstop and had been rumored/linked to the Rays/Adames in the offseason... how on earth did they let Willy Adames end up with the Brewers.

Check out the video highlights here. Retired all 5, K'd 4 with ridiculous stuff. Feyereisen was the victim of one hit and the loss via the extra-inning rule here, but the early returns (Adames/Richards/J.P./Drew) have been fantastic for all parties

Rasmussen called up, dazzles in hometown

The best part about it is it's win win for two of the smallest markets in baseball.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

How many save opportunities-saves is a game tying 2-run HR at home bottom of the 9th worth? That lead to a win? Adames is stepping to the front for MVP on this team and I know we have Woody, Burnes, Peralta. But seriously how many clutch hits and abs has he already given and injected some Offense to this team? We would clamor hope on Arcia because of some clutch hits. Adames is just making them come weekly.

This is essentially the question Win Probability Added attempts to answer. So far JPF has posted a +1.02 WPA while Adames is at +1.92. WPA also only accounts for batting contributions & stolen bases, so if Willy goes 1st to 3rd or scores from 2nd on a single that credit goes to the hitter, or if he makes a great play in the field it is credited to the pitcher.

Definitely a win/win to this point that has carried over to the team level with the Brewers 22-10 since the trade (most wins in MLB over that stretch) while TB has been just behind at 19-12.

Brewers runs per game pre trade: 3.66

Brewers runs per game post trade: 4.47

Rays bullpen ERA pre trade: 3.53

Rays bullpen ERA post trade: 2.28
