2021-05-21: Brewers (Houser) at Reds (Hoffman) [Brewers lose, 9-4 -- Winker hits 3 HRs, Crew’s slide continues]

Eye Black

So we couldn't solve Jeff Hoffman tonight.

I don't think Brewer fans have a full appreciation for how bad that Christian Yelich contract could end up being. It has the potential to run this franchise into the ground for years.

It's the kneecap injury, he has not been the same since and I am wondering if he ever wil be.

Figures, the Brewers finally pony up for a super star and they get screwed royally.

Being a Brewers fan is hard damn work, always has been.

Remember when Yelich was must see tv. This really hurts to see him struggle so much , not that long ago he never missed a pitch right down the pipe.

It definitely hurts because my favorite team committed what basically amounts to their life savings on the rest of his career and it is almost impossible for them to be successful over that time if he is not good.

Can Counsell please be on the hot seat already? Where are his answers for what is happening? Nothing even looks remotely improved over the past 3 weeks.

I agree that Counsell hasn't done a good job lately but Haines should be gone and Stearns should be feeling some heat for putting together this roster.

Finally the Brewers have three excellent starting pitchers and this is the lineup they surround them with. May as well get a kings ransom for one of our aces since the team never scores for them anyway. Then again don't really want to move an ace starter for more "athletes" that can't hit.

I will stick with the narrative of “if Counsell wasn’t from Whitefish Bay”...it’s gross. He stinks now and he is the manager of a team that has almost every hitter significantly underachieving. It’s on him.

Do you think this is a good lineup because I sure as hell don't.

Well if Yelich isn’t able to bounce back, we might need to deal a pretty significant piece with him to take the contract. I think at this point a team would just take Yelich. And quite frankly, it might be getting to the point (injuries, performance) where we need to just rid of the money and be able to do something with it instead of risking him not being the player he used to be. Because if he isn’t an All-Star talent and is getting almost $30 million, we can’t compete.

I’m a huge Yelich fan and it sucks how this is turning out. I feel bad for him. But I do think it might be in the best interest to get that money off the books with Cain, Bradley, and Avi all off the payroll after 2022 also. This team just needs a roster overhaul and resources being better allocated.

You don't see a ton of these trades but they do happen (Arenado, Stanton). Difference is Stanton and Arenado were still really good.

At this point if he doesn't turn it around like soon you're talking about basically agreeing to just give him away and take a big chunk of his contract with you to get someone to roll the dice on him.

Hauser pitching scared tonight, must be demoralizing to know that if you give up a few runs that your getting a loss. Reds don't seem to miss pitches down the middle.

Hauser?
