2021-05-18: Brewers (Woodruff) at Royals (Bubic) [Brewers lose, 2-0 -- Another good starting pitching performance goes to waste]

Eye Black
Mental block now. Boy do the Brewers have a large mixture of stuff they have going on with their roster.

2018 Counsell wouldn't have thought twice about going to Hader for a 4 inning save to get the matchup against Benintendi, and we'd be going to the 9th tied.

But nope, for 2021 Counsell, Josh=9th inning guy and Devin=8th inning guy. Good times.

I suspected it last year and now am sure of it, Urias is not a major league SS

He's barely a major league player.

He's a major leaguer because he's our only option. He'd be in the minors if we had any halfway decent option.

1-0 may as well be 10-0.

Shaw looks lost, JBJ is an automatic out, and Yelich is back to guessing wrong and swinging at balls that nearly touch his belt buckle.

"So if this fruit's a Brewer's fan, his ass gotta be from Wisconsin...(or Chicago)."

Yeah it's not like back in 2019 when Huira clearly couldn't play 2B but was hitting so you knew we'd find a place for him, Urias's bat doesn't seem to be coming around.

Hader doesn’t want to work multiple innings. I think it’s more that than Counsell.

Urias is looking as bad at SS as Valentin was, and I detested him making errors on routine plays.

Also, why is that an earned run? 2 outs, 2nd run only scores because of the error.

Routine grounder with a catcher carrying a piano on his back running and Urias still can’t make the throw.

Salvy Perez running makes that play just that much worse. There is not a more stress-free throw from SS than that one.

Of course, odds are it doesn't matter. Can't win if you don't score.

Can we trade back for Arcia?

Yea his mechanics are way out of line on his throwing. Has to clean out the side arm more slinging it and just throw normal. Seems he might be best suited at 2B if his throwing is this off. That Arcia trade looks like a pretty big mistake.

The throwing issues are getting to the point where the move might actually be to activate Jace Peterson and option Urias.

Honestly, with the new extra innings rules, teams need to go back to saving their closer on the road until they take the lead, especially when you have a high strikeout guy like Hader.

Replay decisions have absolutely no connection to what happened on the field. They literally flip a coin.

The fans and media wanted it a few years back, now instant replay is here to stay. They should never have adopted it

You could totally make the case to use Hader as a situational lefty there too. If he's only going one, let him get the one you absolutely have to have.

David Stearns and Matt Arnold did a masterful job starting in 2015 of building a 90 win perrenial playoff contender from the ground up with numerous brilliant moves.

Then they took that 90 win perennial playoff contender and turned it into a middling. 500 franchise with a bad farm system with a series of despicably bad moves.

Am I crazy that he got his jersey up by the sleeve/shoulder making him kinda clearly out?

I thought so too.

Went back and watched it, looks like he gets the armpit of his jersey with the tag. It’s hard to tell where the runners hand is at that point because of the bad angles, but if I had to guess I would say he was probably out. I don’t blame replay for not reversing it if they didn’t have any better angles than what we saw.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
