2021-05-13: Cardinals (Flaherty) at Brewers (Burnes) [Brewers lose, 2-0 -- Burnes sets strikeout record and finally issues his first walk; Good pitching and defense goes for naught]

At the end of the day sports is entertainment. Were you entertained today?? That's really what it comes down to. People have been locked up and they are going to come to the park out of a sense of normal life being back but this is not entertaining in any way.

There is nothing normal about being outside, socially distanced, and being expected to wear a mask in your seat despite...being outside. Thankfully I have only witnessed it enforced one time in the three games I was at.

I'm as disheartened by the Brewers offense as anyone, very frustrating to watch quality pitching performance after quality pitching performance seemingly go to waste.

BUT

The Cardinals are a very good baseball team. They held the Brewers to 5 runs the first two games of the series and their ace and quality bullpen shut them out today. The Brewers held them to 4 runs plus the 5 spot they put up in the 11th inning of game 1. A wrinkle here or there and they're the team that would have every reason to be upset about this series not going their way.

After 6 games we're 3-3. The battle for the division is on.

Just something to think about while we wallow in distress together.

Spot on. Too many guys who are simply unwilling and/or unable to adjust their approach.

Ok, but so what? Take Jackie Bradley Jr: He's been an all-star, world series champion, he's hit over 100 homers in the big leagues, played over 900 games in the majors and has made 44 million dollars while doing it.

Why would he do anything but "dance with the one that brought him" as opposed to listening to the advice of a coach who might not be there next year, and doesn't hand out major league jobs?

Up and down the lineup, these guys have all played 1000s of games and I would bet every single one believes they are where they are at because how they've played the game since they were kids, and they're not going to jeopardize their meal ticket now by taking the advice of an MLB coach.

Well what is the point of any coach then? Why don't they just have Stearns set the lineup then let the players play? I'm not sure this holds up

The hitting coach isn't there to teach pro ball players how to hit. Give tips on mechanics, sure. Tell the batter how Sonny Gray likes to work right handed hitters, what Kyle Hendricks likes to throw when ahead in the count, absolutely. When a hitter having a down year can literally cost them millions of dollars, I'm sure they rely on themselves for most of all.

It really depends on where you're sitting, I think. On the 100 level, especially closer to home plate, it seems like almost nobody wears masks and doesn't get any grief about it. In the bleachers and 400 level, the ushers have been pretty hawkish with people who take their masks off for "too long".

I thought the Brewers had two Hitting Coaches but I agree totally Haines has to be the fall guy for this pathetic offense. We are totally wasting such Great Pitching at this point. The pitching is not going to be this lights out all season and the offense has shown no signs of life. I can’t see how long DS can hold off making a move for a bat.

I’m in the minority it appears but I really enjoy watching this team. Our pitching makes me super excited. I love watching these guys work. As I stated before, it seemed like we were setting up for these types of games this year. Low scoring one run games. I think the O will be streaky and when they are on, fun to watch. The consistency we are getting out of our starters should keep us from going on horrible losing streaks. There may not be a lot of runs, but to me, these one run games are really intense.

I'd rather watch when we are on defense than at bat, which is kind of sad really...lol

I've always been a pitching guy anyway, but just a little offense would be nice.
