Now do all the times that a player has a big game and is in the lineup the next day.

We also don’t know if there is something that was nagging any of these players a bit, if there is something about the starting pitcher match up they don’t like or myriad other reasons that they are out of the lineup.

No matter how much people like to complain about it, I don’t think Counsell is looking at a player having a big game and saying - gotta bench him tomorrow so he cools off.

Unfortunately that doesn’t happen too often with this offense. It’s just disappointing when there’s one bright spot and they ride the pine after a good game or two.

Garcia was 0-1 against Alcantara for his career so there’s not much to go off of there.

Oh well. There will certainly be more confusing moves like this. Much needed off day tomorrow for this group. Looking forward to them getting healthy this week.

Put me in the camp of wanting to save hader(or williams) for extra innings. I would personally trust Rasmussen more in the the 9th, though he does have the stuff that would also play well in extras, he just hasn't harnessed it well enough yet. Ironically, if it weren't for the runner on second rule, he would be playing it exactly how he should be and going against the traditional save your closer for the save on the road mentality.
Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

I'd argue there are plenty of times where a player has a good game and plays the next game, joking about our offense aside. It just doesn't fit the narrative, so it is ignored. I'm bored tonight, so I took a look at a handful of our players and we'll see how many times they had a "big game" and played or didn't play the next day. I'm arbitrarily using 2 hits based so we can include your example of Huira.

Narvaez: 7 Big Games (4/1, 4/5, 4/6, 4/10, 4/20, 4/21, 4/25); Didn't start game after in 4 of 7.

Huira: 2 Big Games (4/10, 4/24); Didn't start game after in 1 of 2

Wong: 6 Big Games (4/23, 4/24, 4/25, 4/26, 5/4, 5/8); Didn't start game after on 0 of 6.

Urias: 3 Big Games (4/28, 5/1, 5/7); Didn't start game after in 0 of 3.

Shaw: 5 Big Games (4/1, 4/8, 4/14, 5/1, 5/4); Didn't start game after in 1 of 5.

McKinney: 2 Big Games (4/12, 4/17); Didn't start game after in 1 of 2.

Bradley, Jr: 2 Big Games (4/17, 4/18); Didn't start game after in 0 of 2.

Garcia: 8 Big Games (4/1, 4/10, 4/11, 4/18, 5/1, 5/2, 5/5, 5/8); Didn't start game after in 3 of 8.

Vogelbach - 3 Big Games (4/18, 4/20, 5/4); Didn't start game after in 1 of 3.

Cain - 1 Big Game (4/7); Didn't start game after in 0 of 1.

Yelich - 4 Big Games (4/1, 4/7, 4/10, 5/3); Didn't start game after in 1 of 4 (went on IL on 5/4).

By my count, there have been 43 "Big Games" by these 11 players and they didn't start the next game a total of 12 times (including Yelich on 5/3 where he went to the IL the next day).

Wong was 3 for 5 with a double yesterday and was in the lineup today. On Friday Urias went 2 for 4 with a double and started Saturday. On Wednesday Taylor hit a homerun and started the next day. On Tuesday JBJ hit a homerun and Vogelbach went 2 for 3 and both played the next day... The number of times a guy starts after a good game massively outnumbers the times a guy doesn't start after a good game, and many of those outliers are due to lefty/lefty or righty/righty matchups with the starting pitcher.

Another nail biter game. Good to get a series win in Miami after the losing sweep in Philadelphia.

Good to get the series after having to listen to the Marlin announcers down here. ;)

Feel your pain. Had to watch the Philadelphia series with the Phillies announcers; then saw the Thursday game in person.

Edit to add: That said, the Phillies and Nationals announcers are WAY better than the Pirates crew, which I also have to watch here in PA. That gets old being divisional games.
