In one of the oddest stat lines I’ve seen, against the current collection of Phillies hitters Brandon Woodruff has never given up a single in their 55 career plate appearances against him.

His line versus the currently active Phillies hitters: 4-49, 1 double, 3 home runs, 20 strikeouts, 6 walks

Put into a different context, in Woodruff’s past three starts against the Phillies they have just one hit in each of his three starts against them. As a team the Phillies have hit .055 with a .270 OPS against him in 18 innings.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I realize there are other reasons involved such as the fact he has options while some other players don’t, but it continues to be mildly amusing that the Brewers sent Tyrone Taylor to the Alternate Training Site earlier this week, yet whenever he’s in their lineup he bats among the top of the order (third spot today). I completely agree that he should be batting near the top of the lineup, btw.

If Woodruff can pitch at least 7 shutout innings the Brewers have a chance today. Otherwise it will be tough. Wheeler has been good lately and should thrive against this lineup.

I was at the game in 2019 in which Woodruff pitched 8 innings against the Phillies and never had a runner on base. The only think keeping him from being perfect was a HR by the backup catcher. I would take an outing like that today, though it might mean a 1-0 loss.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

McKinney leadoff double goes for naught after Maile softly lined out on a ball that looked like it was going to hit the dirt (according to the radio broadcast).

If it wasn’t for bad luck, the Brewers wouldn’t have any luck at all in Philly this week.

That wasn't bad luck, it was stupid baserunning.

Amusing and sad at the same time.

I thought the ball hit the dirt, and it looked incredibly close on replay. Maybe McKinney should have been cautious there, but I'll take that gamble considering the benefit of getting to third with one out.

There wasn't much benefit considering the pitcher was batting next and say what you want, he's a good hitter for a pitcher but the most likely outcome of that at bat is still a strikeout.

IMO, Taylor shouldn't be optioned currently regardless of the other options.

Literally half their lineup (Vogelbach, McKinney, Maile, Shaw) were guys that either came here on minor league deals, were considered last guys on the roster, or were desperation adds after the season began. These aren't guys getting the occasional AB, they are starting every day.

This doesn't even count guys like Peterson and Robertson who had roles when healthy, and guys like Reyes who happen to be on the bench today.

Guys like Travis Shaw are absolutely fine to have on your roster as a bench bat and occasional starting option against righties. He is not someone that should be relied on to not only start every single day but do so in a run-producing spot in the lineup.

I know injuries have played a significant role this year, but they have got to do a little better job filling out the 15-26 spots on their roster because the lack of any real bench depth is having a major impact in this losing streak.

There's a lot of money invested in Yelich's back

There is also an additional 40 million or so being paid to three other outfielders none of whom can hit.

Scary enough, the big money doesn't even start til next year. We're still on the Marlins Yelich deal.

The spring training lineup really takes away from the pitchers duel. Watching Woodruff and Wheeler going back and forth would be a lot more enjoyable if we had any confidence our lineup could eventually string together some hits and scratch one across.
