2021-05-03: Brewers (Houser) at Phillies (Velazquez) [Brewers lose, 4-3; Cain & Yelich return from IL]

Eye Black
Why is Urias hitting before a few near auto outs? Dude one of our most consistent hitters lately.

Can't really think of a reason he should be hitting less than 5th. At least put him ahead of Garcia.

I don’t get the fascination Counsell has with having Garcia hit in the top half of the line up. Hopefully Cain/Yelich can stay healthy and Shaw can continue to hit. That at least pushes him to 6th in the line up.

I also don’t see why Vogelbach is ahead of Urias...well I don’t know how we ever found it acceptable to have Vogelbach on the team...but here we are.

I'd do Turang+Lindblom for both (I realize Lindblom has no value, but they need a starting pitcher after losing two)

Yeah, they wpuldn't touch that. They could probably get multiple prospects for both with at least one being at Turang's level or better. So add several more prospects and then if they want Lindblom to fill in innings but you're not getting one, much less both for Turang and a player we don't want.

CC has said they plan out the lineups in advance…..just because Nottingham had a good day doesn’t really change who he is as a player.

I’m sure he and Maile will share time until Pina gets back.

I don't buy this.

Tomorrow's lineup is totally rigid and can't be altered based on who might be hot today, who might not be feeling great tomorrow, etc?

Not feeling great sure……one replacement level player has a good day…. doubt they are going to give that much weight at all.

If CC is so rigid in his line-ups that he can't read his guys, that is horrible management.

I'm not anti-CC however, when he needs to be critisized, he should be.

He pulls this crap all the time, it isn't new.

Did it last year tons of times, and has now done it thios year multiple times.

Cousell loves to go RLRLRLRL as much as he can with the new reliever rules to help prevent situational guys getting in the game.

Yeah I really doubt it. Both have one more year of control after this year and are more #3 than ace quality pitchers. Sellers just aren't getting enormous returns even for quality pitching. I put this one through the public trade evaluator and it comes out almost dead even. I realize that isn't the end all. It I think you're overestimating the trade value of these guys. . Fulmer just hasn't recovered alt of his value. Boyd, maybe.

Hiura's value has tanked enough that maybe it's a better match to do both for Hiura instead, but I'm only suggesting that because I've been on record saying trade Hiura now before it becomes obvious to everyone that he can't play and his value totally tanks. I certainly wouldn't do him for less than both, though.

Counselll Is fine

Here’s a novel idea. Safely get to first base. Then get to second. Then get to third. And then run home!!!!!!

And sometimes maybe skip one base at a time and go two bases or maybe even three. Wow

Millions and millions of dollars are being paid for people to do this

We desprately need a hitting 1B.

The Vogelbomb experiment needs to end.

WE DESPERATELY NEED AN OFFENSIVE 1B!!

There's the problem. I think that trade value website is total trash and it also completely ignores that teams don't have to trade players if they don't get the value they feel they should be and there could be multiple teams involved (which there usually are for starting pitchers) to drive the price above the "surplus value."

This has been said 1000 times over in various threads ... but boy would Ryan Braun at 1st base would be a really nice fit right now. If we are using Hiura and Vogs ... defense isn't going to be a plus as it is. I hope he is staying in shape and ready for a June 'call up'.

Because of his offensive prowess last year?

Given our first baseman's performance this year... Braun's .760 OPS from last year would be amazing right now.

Just like the Eric Sogard experiment: We knew he sucked, but we just could resist ending his Brewers tenure on a comical hot streak. Hopefully when we dump Vogelbach we don’t double down and sign him again just to suck two years later.

I think it's accepted that teams don't have to trade guys if they don't get the value they feel they should. That's why we didn't trade Hader. We had one value on him, the rest of the league had another. It's definitely not a perfect science. It's just a tool.

I don't get the Houser hate. He has been solid all year, gave up a few hits early today but has settled in and is dealing right now. Game could be 2-1 without the Urias error

Nobody hates Houser. He's just a lot better reliever than a starter.

For a 4th or 5th starter he is decent to possibly really good. Of course with our offense a 5th starter is going to lose a lot and no one likes to lose a lot, so it makes him look worse than he is.

I'm ready for Nottingham to play some first. Vogelbach just sucks. He had one game this year where he hit 2 bombs and other than that game he has had no business on an active roster much less starting every day.

Urias is no faster getting down the line than Arcia, and that isn’t fast.

Urias isn’t fast (slightly below average sprint speed), but he’s much faster than Arcia who was always in the bottom 10-15% among all MLB players in sprint speed. Chart below shows their percentile rank in each 5ft increment, i.e. 0-5ft, 5-10ft, 10-15ft, etc.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
