Burnes to IL

Plenty of players have gone of the COVID list due to reactions from the shot. This could be it.

Seems unlikely given where we are in the season. Seems like most players that got the vaccine shot got it earlier this month (and I read Brewer players got the J&J shot - so one and done). Had to google what you said. Only found two players (but maybe there were more). Garrett Cooper and Gio Urshela, and I believe both were only out for a few days. So, hopefully that's the case, but again, I really doubt it unless Burns just recently decided he wanted the shot. Also, I believe I read that Bettinger will make his MLB debut Sunday. No need to announce that if it's just a matter of Corbin getting over a reaction to the shot.

I've had at least 3 others on my fantasy team. Greg Holland, Jake McGee, and Diego Castilla all missed a game or two over the last week.

Lance McCullers Jr. as well. He had to miss a start at Coors Field due to the reaction he had to the vaccine, for my fantasy team's sake I wasn't too upset he missed a Coors start.

Signs point to something COVID-related, or at least not a traditional injury. DS saying "pause" makes me think COVID, but maybe that's just leftover vocab from CBB season.

Hope it's a short stay, either way.

That this team is 14-10 through this schedule and with these injuries is, uh, pretty amazing.

I am a big Burnes fan, but if he tested positive, which I'm assuming means he didn't get the shots, shame on him.

Way to let the team down Corbin.

No, it does not mean he did not get the shot(s). :rolleyes

It's definitely COVID-related, otherwise Zimmermann would be the 41st player on the 40-man roster.

If vaccinated players have close contact but aren't symptomatic, they don't have to go on the COVID list, so either Corbin is vaccinated and showing symptoms (extremely unlikely), or he's actually got COVID or was exposed to someone with COVID and isn't vaccinated (which is disappointing).

Either way he could probably use the rest at this point in the season.

I hate to break it to you, but getting vaccinated doesn't mean you wouldn't test positive for having COVID by any stretch....it likely means he would get through having COVID without displaying obvious severe symptoms warranting a hospital visit or extended absence from playing. This is why some countries (Israel leading the way with this) and health agencies are adjusting their testing approach for vaccinated people (only testing them if they show obvious symptoms to try and trace a variant that may be both breaking through a vaccine and presenting health problems to an individual).

Heck, the PGA tour came out and said they aren't going to be testing fully vaccinated players/people - at some point the rest of the sports leagues and society in general will follow suit.

Not sure I understand the logic. You can still get COVID if you are vaccinated. However, you are unlikely to show symptoms so you shouldn't get tested unless you show symptoms? Isn't the fear, if you are vaccinated, really about other people you come in contact with? You got the vaccine, but you still got COVID and are not showing symptoms. In this scenario you are still a risk to those who have not been vaccinated. So, at least in the sports world and other situations where you have a team relying on you and everyone on the team is not vaccinated, shouldn't you continue to get tested even if you are vaccinated? Better yet - how about every single player getting vaccinated?! That would pretty much reduce the chance of severe symptoms and probably the need for testing for all.

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

Vaccines may not fully protect against new/different variants/mutations of the virus.

The thought is that if someone is positive but asymptomatic, that strain is nothing to worry about. It's the strains that are making people sick/symptomatic after being vaccinated that they need to worry about.

Shame? For not getting a vaccination? How in the wide world can you make that judgment? Do you know of his situation in the slightest? Even if you did, this is his call, not yours.

I have no idea what the situation is, but if he's missing time and he wouldn't if he had gotten vaccinated I think it's fair for a fan to say "shame on him". Just like it's fair for a fan to say "shame on him" for a guy who gets hurt doing something stupid in the offseason. Don't take it too literally, we're not family or friends, we're fans of a sports team.

Choosing not to get a shot is not comparable to ACTUALLY doing something stupid in the offseason. Not fair to say to the man face to face or on this board....

..... but when not doing so causes him the miss baseball games, fans have every right to question that decision in a baseball context. Just like Jeff Kent is perfectly able to ride motorcycles in the offseason, but when it causes him to miss baseball games, it’s a team’s issue.

As has already been mentioned numerous times in this thread, you can still get a positive test even if you've received a vaccine. A number of ballplayers have missed games this year due to the vaccine side-effects, so do fans get to question their decisions in a baseball context as well? Speculating on Corbin's vaccination status with zero actual knowledge and judging him as if he was Jeff Kent recklessly tooling around on a motorcycle is pretty nonsensical, in my opinion.

Didn’t say anywhere that I claim to know whether he’s been vaccinated or not. Just responding to the point claiming that we don’t have an interest in the ramifications of his choice when that choice does, in fact, potentially impact his ability to play baseball.
