not necessarily. they could know sooner. the club has up to seven days to outright, trade or release the dfa'd player. sometimes, they move faster.

 

They could trade or release him sooner but don't they have to wait until the waiver period is over to outright him? They aren't going to release him and haven't traded him yet so it appears they hope to get him through waivers and keep him. Personally I hope they can keep him in the minors until next year. That way he remains an option for the backup catcher next season. Hopefully he can get some offense to go with his defense by then.
