Today’s game is a counter to the question, "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?"

Daniel Castano’s strikeout rate in 2021: 5.0%

Brewers hitters strikeout rate in 2021: 28.7%

So lets play a guessing game, how many strikeouts do you think Castano records against the Brewers this evening?

Not just “at Night” anymore.

No doubt, Keston will lead the K klub with 3. Tack on 2 more for Houser + 5 for every else...

Battle of Shiloh:

General Sherman: "Well, Grant, we've had the devil's own day, haven't we?"

General Grant: "Yes. Lick 'em tomorrow, though."

Pretty much how I feel when we lose game 1 this year.

Questions are a burden.   And answers a prison for one's self.

Guesses on who starts tomorrow?

Mine is Suter.....mostly because I don't want to think about Lauer or Zimmerman putting us in a quick 4-0 hole in the first.

All depends on how many innings Houser goes tonight. If he can go 6-7, then we're probably looking at a bullpen day. If the pen gets taxed tonight, we better hope that Lauer or Zimmermann found something in the last few weeks.

The guys on the 40-man who are not on the major league roster who would be in contention are Bettinger (Was hurt in ST, I think he's back now though), Lauer and Weigel. They could add someone (Zimmermann, Godley, Brown etc), but the 40-man is full and I don't think they'll want to drop someone until they have to.

If it wasn't in the midst of a long stretch of games without off days I would've said Suter + bullpen. Which is still a possibility ofc.

So all things considered I would expect Lauer. But it's hard to say since we don't know how anyone has looked at the alternate site. Perhaps Lauer has continued to struggle and then it probably won't be him. But he has only a few games worth of being terrible with the Brewers, and 250 IP worth of being an adequate bottom of the rotation starter before that, so as bad as he's looked I'd still value the latter higher. That is, unless the shoulder issues he had last year are still lingering.

As pathetic as it sounds it may depend on if Robertson can go. Would be easy enough to send Reyes down and bring up Lauer. Lauer showed something his first couple of years with the Padres and should at least be better than Godley/Zimmerman. Would hate to lose Suter for a few days when the rest of the bullpen has been less than reliable. Hopefully at least one of Cain/Yelich can be activated off the IL after tomorrow's game and a pitcher can be sent back down.

My vote would be for Weigel. I like his upside the best of those available. Big dude, several pitches he can throw for strikes, mid to upper 90s velocity. Not real sure if they see him as more of a reliever now, though.

Agreed, would love to see Weigel take Anderson's rotation spot for now... Gotta see what we have in this kid... I see him as a starter yet... He's started 74 of 86 games he's pitched in for his minor league career so far.

Lineup for tonight has been announced.

Taylor ® LF

Narvaez (L) C

Garcia ® RF

Hiura ® 1B

Shaw (L) 3B

Urias ® SS

Bradley (L) CF

Reyes ® 2B

Houser ® SP

A few observations...

Wong isn’t starting, Reyes starts at 2B.

Tyrone Taylor has now started three games this year and his position in the batting order for those three games has been 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Castano actually has fairly wide reverse splits in his short career thus far. He’s been better against right-handed batters (.675 OPS against) than left-handed batters (.789 OPS against), but it’s a very small sample (166 plate appearances).

Keston Hiura is facing a LHP that barely strikes anyone out. It sort of feels like a “now or never” type of moment for him. Not that he won’t get plenty more chances, but in the sense it’s probably an important night for him to take a step in the right direction.

It looks like a split squad lineup they recycled from a month ago.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Manny Piña has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured toe. Brewers recalled Luke Maile.

Brewers have also added RHP Patrick Weigel from the alternate site and optioned Phil Bickford.

Guess we know who is getting the start tomorrow. I'm excited to see him.

He’s probably just happy to have escaped being locked in the pitching lab the past three weeks.

They could be adding him for bullpen depth and start Suter tomorrow too.

Good point. Not as exciting, though. Weigel provides a little "mystery of the unknown."

But the more I think about it, you are probably right. They may even have to make another move, depending on how the pen is used tonight.

Just nice to know the team will be using one of the trade returns from Arcia trade. With all the injuries to the offensive side Arcia would have actually been useful during this stretch.

Taking Garcia, Hiura, and Shaw 3-5 in the order after the recent stretch of poor hitting shows how much team misses Cain and Yelich.
