Shaw is atrocious against lefties. I’m shocked Counsell isn’t trying to put the nail in the coffin here. Lack of innovation there once again. We all knew that result was coming.

Glad to see the rest of the hitters in that inning be patient and do their job.

Obviously the error will be on Urias, but seems like that’s one you hope your first baseman is going to be able to handle most of the time.

EDIT: The scoring ruling was a base hit, apparently?

Not just “at Night” anymore.

The problem is with who? Robertson ain't that guy.

With Luis Urias (hopefully) due up this inning these are the exit velocities of the past six balls he’s put in play:

97.2 mph

104.3 mph

105.3 mph

86.2 mph

98.6 mph

105.9 mph

Seems like he could be on the verge of breaking out a bit.

I’ve always hated the thought of never using your backup catcher. If the starting catcher gets hurt, you always have an extra guy on the roster that can handle it for a couple innings. How often does the starting catcher get hurt and leave the game? I’m genuinely curious, but it seems to be extremely rare. And holding back on a guy 100 times during the season in pinch hitting situations for that MAYBE twice a year (at most?) where a catcher might need to be removed is dumb roster management in my opinion.

Perez was here for a number of years. I imagine Robertson is that guy now. If not, I am sure Vogelbach could handle an inning or two with gear on. Sure it might not be pretty, but you make a roster move the next day.

This just seems like a place where a manager could be innovative and put the team in a better chance to win. A team just can’t be operated in that way assuming a certain player is going to get hurt every single day.

I’m sure I’m in the minority on that and that’s fine. That was an obvious situation to use Pina with the game on the line and a struggling lefty hitter up that struggles against lefties as it is. It was a very obvious decision in my opinion on what should of happened.

They’ve certainly seen Chafin a lot this year (his 5th appearance against the Crew).

Score some runs here and lets go into Sunday with “Big Woo” on the mound for the season series.
