A (Not So) Fun Fact:

The two highest strikeout games of Dinelson Lamet’s career have come against the Brewers.

On September 18, 2019 he struck out 14 Brewers hitters in just 6.0 IP.

On June 17, 2017 he struck out 12 Brewers hitters also in 6.0 IP.

Those were his only two career appearances versus the Brewers. He does have one other career game in which he reached 12 strikeouts (versus the Mariners in 2019).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I know this isn't the pessimism thread but today has all the markings of a Brewer beatdown. Series already won, two Aces holding a top 5 team in the sport to 1 run in games, bench players coming up huge, getaway day and their stud SP coming back today. I hope I am wrong but I see the Padres taking it out on Houser today, jumping out early and winning a 7-1 type game.

Like I said, not pessimistic but the Brewers already exceeded expectations in SD. Great job Crew.

I'd be surprised if they let Lamet go more than 4 innings. Be nice to make him throw a bunch of pitches in the 1st inning

That’s definitely what conventional wisdom would suggest, but Lamet claimed the following yesterday (link)...

Dinelson Lamet says there's no limit. That's why they took their time. He plans to go out there and compete like he normally would.

Curious to find out if he’s right.

Logic would dictate that Lamet will be on a pitch count of roughly 60-70 pitches. But with the way this Brewers lineup likes to flail around at times, they could get him through 6.

I got into an argument with a friend over who is a better hitter, Garcia or Shaw. He argued for Shaw. I told him we haven't faced a lefty starter in over 3 weeks so Shaw's numbers are inflated and Garcia's have not been 'aided'. Are we going to face a lefty ever again?

Funny enough, Shaw and Garcia are both 14-58 on the season.

Shaw has 9 hitless ABs vs. LHP with 1 BB, 1 HBP & 4 Ks; .182 OPS

Garcia is 1 for 5 vs. LHP with a double, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 HBP & 1 K; .900 OPS

I think, if rotation doesn't change, we're due to face one of the Marlins lefties in the series on the 26th-28th, and IIRC also Urias or Kershaw in the series after. Not done the maths myself, just recall reading that it currently lined up that way. But yeah, that's a long time without facing a single lefty starter.

In the spirit of JP hitting a HR last night, my predictions for more unlikely karma today:

Leading off the game, Bradley walks then D-Rob blasts 2 run HR. (Earlier in the IGT, everyone loved the fact CC had him in the 2-hole.) Doogie twirls a CG shutout, Brewers sweep.

Urias gets another day. No Taylor. Hiura sits, Vogelbach at first.

Either they're being REAL careful with Luis, or "calf cramp" was a pretty bogus description of his injury. Not sure why you'd start Robertson at short here if Urias is healthy. Maybe to just give him one more shot? He's the worst-performing righty position player at this point, probably, but he's also the one who can play short, right?

After two years of ever increasing failure and frustration, I have jettisoned Hiura from my fantasy team. You can thank me if he takes off in the near future.

Someone had to jump on the grenade. Thanks, Simba

I'm headed to Petco for my first time inside a ballpark since the Brewers got swept here 2 years ago. All vaxxed and we'll be distanced (although not in one of the vax only sections). On the 3d base side and my Pad fan friend says there'll be Brewer fans around. Really nice of him, so I'll leave the broom at home. Nice low stress game; if they lose I'll still be happy for him and my son (who still hasn't thanked me after he played McKinney in Draft Kings the last 2 nights on my advice but whatever).

It wouldn’t be a bad day to pitch around Trent Grisham a bit (or go excessive with the changeup usage). Houser is the type of pitcher Grisham has thrived against in San Diego. Houser relies on his 4-seamer and sinker ~65% of the time. Those are pitches Grisham has been crushing, and obviously Houser’s issues against LHHs are well documented.

EDIT: On second thought I’m not sure Houser should throw his secondary pitches much either (link)...

Opponent wOBA by pitch type against Houser this year:

Curveball: .526

Changeup: .871

Slider: .358

That’s so great! Hopefully you get to witness a series sweep, but if not it’ll still just be an amazing feeling to be back at a ballpark again!

I always thought the cramp description was odd and even more so by today. I'm sure it would be better called a calf strain.

When I tore a calf muscle playing basketball about 45 years ago, at first I thought it was a cramp. Then I realized I couldn’t work it out like a cramp.

I won’t be surprised if Urias is out for awhile. Even a strained calf can be as dangerous as a mild hamstring pull.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

We need some of these guys to get off the DL

I'm in two separate fantasy leagues, and I am at the 4 player DL limit in both leagues. I've got Juan Soto, Tim Anderson, Gavin Lux, Starling Marte on for position players, and looking like Acuna heading there too possibly. It seems like a league wide epidemic.

Can you weigh in on what it is like sitting in Gallagher Square? Is it worth watching a game from there? I will have a chance to go to Petco in a couple of weeks, and that section has the only tickets under $200 on StubHub! Crazy how expensive they are.
