Tyrone Taylor

jonescm128

Was curious so I looked at Taylor’s career numbers and they are really impressive. Only 53 ABs but he has a slash line of .283/.356/.545 and only striking out at an 18% clip. Was really surprised to see that.

Give the man some ABs!

I remember when he was all the rage as a prospect when the rest of the farm system sucked (at least it seemed that way via rankings). Feels like a century ago, but probably only 7-8 years.

Man...you aren't kidding! It seems like Taylor has been in in the Brewers organization for 10+ years now. He was that top prospect when the system was terrible (well, the first time the system was terrible in the past decade), and that seems like it was ages ago now. Hard to believe that he's still fighting for a MLB spot, but you have to give the kid credit. Would love to see us give the kid a start or two here this week before we hopefully get Yeli back. The problem for TT though is that you also have a guy like McKinney that is deserving of some starts right now in the OF.

I just hope they keep Taylor long enough to get a shot at replacing Garcia next year. I think he can be a solid everyday player on a good team maybe even more than that. Stearns has shown very little patience with prospects that weren't drafted during his tenure (see Garrett Cooper and Trent Grisham). I just hope he doesn't look to deal him for some dime a dozen bullpen arm that failed elsewhere.

Yes McKinney has been very good so far, but I think Taylor's earned no worse than half the AB's available with Cain and Yelich on the DL.

With both doing so well, and Garcia only signed through this year, they have options and don't need to go looking for more expensive options.

TT needs to play.

They have the perfect opportunity to get him some extended at bats.

It is basically now or never.

Once Cain and Yelich get back, he will go back down unless he forces his way on the daily roster.

The Bradley signing puzzles me to this day.

If you think the Bradley signing is puzzling, you did not get the theme of the offseason. Defense and pitching is the way this team was built and so far, it is working. Bradley will end up making his impact offensively too. Already has at some points. You can never have enough good players.

Yes he seems to hit the ball hard given often. WAs on fire in spring and hits it hard now in his chances. I'm all for getting him lots of ABs right now and see how he does. Then Yeli/Cain come back and he's back down or to the bench. Maybe it'll just be a hot streak and he fizzles out, who knows, but 10 hot games will help us out with Yeli down and Hiura lost. Of course McKinney has done well though too so it's tough to criticize anyone here.

The last scouting info I could find on him indicated a 50 hit tool (average) and 40 power tool (below average). With above average running, fielding and average throwing arm. He's perfectly cast in his role right now as a 4th/5th outfielder. With Yelich and Cain out they may as well play the hot hand, but they have better options as regulars than Tyrone Taylor.

No one said he is but JBJ is at another level and that can make a difference over the course of the season. Let's put it this way. If the Brewers ended up going with Taylor and he stunk, you'd have the fans with pitchforks out again saying how cheap the Brewers are and that they never sign anyone. Well, they signed JBJ to shore up their team defensively as well as bring another stick from the left side.

With Yelich and Cain hurt, the Brewers should be going with a platoon of Taylor/McKinney in LF, JBJ in CF, and Garcia in RF. Obviously, Garcia and JBJ will need days off but that would be the approach I am taking right now if I am Counsell. Stick with the hot bat be it Taylor or McKinney.

Similarly, until Wong is back, I would be playing Vogelbach more at 1B and Hiura more at 2B. Robertson and Peterson offer nothing in the way of a bat and while his defense is god awful, I think Hiura needs to be in the lineup daily and Vogelbach deserves more time.

He didn’t really show it in the minors in 2018 and 2019, that’s why he’s behind guys like McKinney and Fisher, who had better MiLB numbers for different orgs. I hope he can make the most of his opportunities though.
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him work on his defense at 1B and become a RF/1B like Alex Kirilloff. That would arguably be his best chance at playing time moving forward with the Brewers and it would certainly be a big boost to be able to have a guy over there for a number of years.

That would be something they could explore next offseason.

He has eraned playing time over JBJ and Garcia to this point.

We won't know what we have until he gets more playing time. He certainly can't do any worse than JBJ and Garcia have been so far.

Last thing I want to do is trade him away to someone for another light hitting middle infielder. (Grisham)

Let's not make that mistake again.

It's way too early, of course, to call the Grisham trade a mistake.

As for Taylor, reality is they're paying Garcia and JBJ too much to ride the pines in May. They will have a long leash. Everyone was talking about McKinney like this until he cooled off. It's a long season, at some point the best bats will become more obvious, and they will play. Short term, Taylor will get plenty of ABs.

One of the weirder things about Tyrone though is that not only was he a bigtime prospect once upon a time, he has now just plain hit in his 3 call-ups. Even his lower performance last year still featured a .500 SLG. So it's not like we are just fixating on this year.

He’s got less than 70 at bats in his career. There’s no reason to not go with the hot hand with their injuries and offensive scuffling. It would be a great Cinderella story, but advance scouting and game film tend to be the great equalizers. Hiura looked invincible after 70 at bats too.

Which means nothing as far as Tyrone Taylor is concerned.

Taylor needs to play.

It's obvious to me, it's obvious to most.

Hopefully it is becoming obvious to Counsell.

If he cools off, sure, sit him down, but all he has done so far is hit!

Play him!

Pretty cool that Yelich goes down, and McKinney and now Taylor take turns imitating him while the team continues to win. Stuff like that must really piss off fans of other teams sometimes, but that's baseball. Sometimes the least likely guy comes out of nowhere and gets hot. I'm more than happy to ride out this hot streak with Taylor and see where it goes. Things in that OF are gonna look mighty crowded if the indications are correct and Cain and Yelich will be back within the week.

I'm good with his usage. Counsell has started him the last two games and has given him plenty of at-bats so far with his role. On top of that, the Brewers are winning with a collective effort.

The shine has worn off of McKinney a bit.

Let Taylor take it from here in McKinney's role.

Good to see folks here starting to tune into how good Taylor has been, and possibly, how good he can be.

I think we will be needing a 4th and 5th outfielder all season long due to the fragility of Yelich and Cain.

Those two will start when available, and of course have scheduled days off.

With Yelich, Cain, Taylor, JBJ and Garcia, there will probably be enough at bats to go around.

All I ask is that the best 3 are played on a regular basis, and at this time, Taylor is one of them.

He shouldn't be on the bench another game that Yelich and Cain are out.

That should be a given.

See what he can do with extended playing time and go from there.
