Given that a high strikeout pitcher in Burnes is on the mound, I think this is a night where we may see Hiura get a start at 2B, and Vogelbach start at 1B. Certainly not ideal defensively, but that is probably the best chance to score some runs with all these guys out. Hopefully Urias is ok and back in there tonight so we don't have to see Robertson take another collar.

JBJ isn't here for his offense. He is here to save runs. If there is one thing we should've learned from 2018 is that they will stack positions and find at-bats for them all.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I kinda felt like we stole that one yesterday. 3-1 win against a top 5 team off homers from Urias, Mckinney, and Taylor...that was a lucky one for me. Here's hoping we can scratch out some more with half our best position players on IL

I actually think the exact opposite. Woodruff was absolutely dominant after the 1st inning, and even in the 1st inning he looked sharp to me, but a tight zone and some good ABs from the Padres made it an interesting inning before he just shut them down after that.

McKinney just got hold of one, but the Urias/Taylor homers weren't cheapies, and Musgrove pitched very well but we still managed to take advantage of mistakes. None of this I would interpret as luck, but a very solid performance against a tough team. That's how you win games against good teams is by doing everything you're supposed to do and taking advantage of their mistakes. I thought it was a very solid win, made more impressive by the fact that we're missing 3 of our starters long term. This team continues to impress me with its resilience.

Hopefully we can get an early lead and keep the pressure on tonight and let Burnes do his work.

On a side note, does anyone think JBJ is at risk of losing playing time to Mckinney if/when we get back to full strength? definitely not in CF, but on off days for Garcia/Yelich...Mckinney might be a better play right now.

Yesterday was JBJ's first game without a hit since April 8th. Even including yesterday, in that time he's hitting .297/.333/.459 and playing really solid defense in left/center field.

During that same time, McKinney is batting .280/.308/.480, which isn't bad for a bench guy but it's not like he's outplaying JBJ (who has been more consistent in that time, 3 of McKinney's 7 hits in that time came in that one game against the Cubs).

Does McKinney deserve playing time as long as there are injuries and we're facing righties? Sure. Should he be replacing JBJ at all unless he needs a day off? Probably not. I imagine he'll go back to only playing as needed.

It sounded like Counsell decides lineups days in advance so I don't know how much he puts into it from the game before.

I think last night's win was exactly how they drew it up this year. Their pitching suffocated the Padres lineup (four total base runners after the 2nd inning), and when Musgrove did make a mistake the Brewers hit them hard. Maybe they got lucky they went over the fence but I think this is exactly the type of game they wanted to play this year.

(1) I'm sick of watching JBJ swing at pitches like he's Chuckie Carr. Send him to the 8 slot and bat Avi leadoff.

(2) Is it just me or is the umpiring even worse than usual this year? Or have the Brewers just drawn some awful umpires the last few games?

It has been bad for years it feels like. Last night was the first game I was able to see in its entirety due to kids and such, and I just shook my head at the 'strike' Hiura took in the 6th inning or whatever inning it was.

Last night wasn’t great, but it was actually one of Cory Blaser’s better performances of the season (but still below average across all umpires in both accuracy and consistency).

What does Tyrone Taylor need to do to get a start.

1. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF

2. Daniel Vogelbach (L) 1B

3. Avisail Garcia ® RF

4. Travis Shaw (L) 3B

5. Omar Narvaez (L) C

6. Keston Hiura ® 2B

7. Billy McKinney (L) LF

8. Daniel Robertson ® SS

9. Corbin Burnes ® P

Convince the other team to start a left handed pitcher.
