2021-04-18: Pirates (Kuhl) at Brewers (Peralta) [Brewers lose, 6-5 in 10 innings]

Eye Black
No explanation as to why JBJ didn't advance on the deep fly to right?

Geez.

What’s to explain? It was a bonehead mistake that might not have made any difference.

They said he started to third, then started back, but didn’t come all the way back to tag up. Must have thought the ball might fall in somehow.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Tough loss. Never felt like one we "should" have won, but definitely had chances.

Moran made big swings.

After 15 games, Brewers are about where I thought they'd be. Considering the IL right now, I'll take it.

Hoping for a split road trip, and then Yeli and Wong can come back.

Richard Rodriguez is nasty. I was calling for a walk of the catcher Perez to load the bases in the 10th.

Rodriguez either bats to end the inning or you take your chances but at least get him out of the game.

Yeah, I thought this too. I suppose they didn't want to put JP in a spot where he had to throw a strike, but this might have been the way to go.

That’s a really good point. It feels like that, and the limit on Hader’s usage to strictly one inning are decisions that significantly lower your odds of winning a game like this.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

From Adam McCalvy...

Craig Counsell on why he didn't double switch when Josh Hader came into the game in the 9th, which would have given him the option of Hader vs. Moran in the 10th: "At this point here, we're just going to stick with Josh for one inning right now, at this point in the season."

I liked Hader so much better before Counsell pigeonholed him as a one inning reliever.

Fine with this if it truly is FOR NOW. No need to push Hader, especially after few ST appearances and in just his what? 4th appearance of the year?

If this is still the prevailing logic post-ASB, though, I'll think some serious value has been wasted.

Hader might still be Hader because of the way he’s being used though.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

His value was as that multi-inning dominant presence to get you to your closer, whether its Knebel, Devin Williams, or someone else.

Ideally, the Crew has two or three similar types, so Hader isn't the only one.

I dunno. He seemed to do just fine in '18. I think Hader will be Hader regardless of how he is used as a reliever as long as he's not abused.

He's gone from using Hader in a winnable game multiple innings if hes available to pitch to Im okay with him for 1 IP and don't care if we win or lose the game I use him in. Do 8 teams make the playoffs again?

I think I saw every AB except the Moran game winning double. Looking at the pitch on the Gamecast grid that slider was really well located down and in. I feel badly for Feyereisen.

Not in April they don't, no.
