It would have made more sense to have someone else pitch the 9th, then pinch hit for that pitcher and let Hader pitch the tenth. Hader is by far our best choice for the runner on second situation and if he gets through with few pitches he could possibly go the 11th.

I don’t think you make that call when you can lose the game in the 9th. Especially when Hader hasn’t thrown in days now.

Only 13 pitches from Hader that inning too. Coming off few days rest...if Counsell were ever going to use him more than 1 this would be perfect opp.

 

Nope, Narvey pinch hitting for him.

 

Too bad Hader was scheduled to hit. Maybe CC let's him pitch another inning if he wasn't supposed to hit.

 

Wonder if a double-switch might’ve happened Taylor for McKinney if we hadn’t pinch hit Taylor earlier in the game. Not a knock on Counsell, just the way the game unfolded, but curious how strict they are being with Hader as a 1 inning guy now.

We definitely did not play like we wanted to win...can’t score a guy from 2nd with zero outs two innings in a row and can’t run the bases correctly. Then lose with the bat on the shoulder. Losing a series to the Pirates, kinda brutal.
